LMI, a strategic consulting organization focused on the federal government, is seeking a Product Owner with experience supporting government system upgrades, implementations, and deployment.
The Product Owner will work closely with a geographically diverse project team, including clients, subs, other contractors, and vendor staff, on technology focused projects. Their primary responsibility will be to represent the needs of our client’s business personnel to technical planning groups in IT, and, likewise, to represent the needs of IT to the business clients. This will include working closely with multiple business areas, coordinating concepts across the entirety of the project, and developing a solid understanding of how various business operations function. The Product Owner identifies improvement opportunities and defines technical requirements to help IT teams design hardware or software solutions. This includes partial oversight over technical writers, trainers, deployment teams, and SOP content.
Qualified candidates for the role of a Product Owner must have strong communication skills and relate well to various levels of stakeholders including executives, technologists, and business users. Knowledge of both technical and business terminology is required, with exceptionally qualified candidates being familiar with logistics and transportation systems. Knowledge of Agile and Product Management/Product Ownership are critical for this role, as is knowledge of the SDLC. Hands-on skills include developing presentation materials, chairing and facilitating meetings, and developing flow charts and data models. IT analysts should also be quick learners to understand how work is performed within a variety of departments or functional groups, such as purchasing, finance, or contracts. Qualified candidates will also have a demonstrated understanding of IT project management practices, including senior-level involvement in complex system implementations and modifications. Highly qualified candidates will demonstrate an understanding of cyber security practices for Government Agencies for system modifications, integrations, and procurement.
Responsibilities:- Work with program manager to oversee and manage multiple, interconnected IT projects with various geographically dispersed project teams
- Work with program manager to create project strategies for business stakeholders, including providing subject matter expertise to solve complex problems
- Coordinate with an extensive project team, including potential subcontractors, client SMEs, other contractors, and vendors.
- Gather, analyze, translate, and compose technical information into clear, readable documents to be used by technical and non-technical personnel.
- Conduct research and ensure use of proper technical terminology. Selects photographs, drawings, sketches, diagrams, and charts to illustrate material. Possesses knowledge and experience in requirements decomposition and systems integration.
- Provide IT subject matter expertise for implementation, modification, and consolidation of systems and services, to include all aspects of requirements development, design, execution, cyber security, testing, deployment, and transition to O&M.
- Partner with senior level stakeholders to identify metrics that can be used to benchmark, analyze, and report project data
- Work with various business stakeholders to translate IT jargon, processes, and practices in order to develop, execute, and test functional requirements
- Work with various technical stakeholders to translate the needs of the business into actionable and feasible solutions
- At least 10 years’ work experience
- Bachelor’s degree
- Demonstrated communications skills, both written and verbal to multiple levels of management
- Demonstrated strong analytical and problem-solving skills and ability to learn quickly and adapt to changing environments
- Expert-level knowledge and experience with Microsoft products: Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Project, and Visio is required.
- Experience with the SDLC
- Experience with Agile: SAFe (preferred)
- Must demonstrate professionalism and a positive work ethic in all situations with clients, vendors, and coworkers
- Must be able to qualify for a USPS Public Trust Clearance.
- Master’s degree in IT or Business
- SAFe Product Owner certified
- Experience with Product Management/Product Ownership
- PMP certified
- Previous work with senior executive or director-level leaders
