Product Operations & Strategy Director London, England

Wise
Full Time London, England 140000 - 170000 GBP ANNUAL Today
Job description

Your mission

Wise has pioneered new ways to transfer money across borders. And now, our customers can also manage their hard-earned money with the world's first true multi-currency banking platform. Helping teams choose 'what' to build next and 'how' to build it is where you come in! This team will enable all of our teams to grow and accelerate the development of a new generation of Wise products.

Wise believes in empowering our teams, and let them call the shots. We believe teams are closest to their particular part of the product and therefore have the most context about how to iterate our product. With this autonomy comes great responsibility! How do we know what to build next? Does what we're building hang together in the eyes of our customers? How do we manage inter-dependence across teams? If you are interested in these types of questions then this role could be for you!

Product Ops is a relatively new, small team of specialists at Wise. Their focus is the machine (people & process) which builds our product. We have 90+ autonomous product teams, organised into 20 squads and 5 tribes. Our product teams are cross functional and made up of some of the best engineers, product managers, analysts, designers, data scientists & researchers on the planet! Whilst we believe in autonomy, there are certain ceremonies that we care deeply about, and ask all of our teams to participate in, e.g. company-wide planning. This is where Product Ops comes in - how do we orchestrate across so many teams without introducing unnecessary friction?

Product Strategy is also very new at Wise. Their focus is helping teams articulate the strategy for their part of the product, ensuring that this strategy maximises progress for our customers, and then help teams track progress towards our goals. Having these shared contexts is extremely important given the autonomous nature of our teams at Wise. Strategy isn't a 'once and done' effort, it will constantly iterate as we learn more about our customer's needs and figure out ways of solving them.

At Wise, we are fully devoted to our Mission: Money without borders. Instant, convenient, and eventually free. And we know that we can only get there if we are investing strategically to be able to expand fast and grow further. In short, no other role at Wise enjoys this level of exposure to all of our new product initiatives, helping our product teams build the future of Wise.

Here's how you'll be contributing

  • Ultimately, your mission is to help our teams at Wise move quicker, solving problems and iterating our products for our customers;
  • You'll be crafting the vision and goals of the Product Ops & Product Strategy teams while working with autonomous teams.
  • You'll communicate long term strategy with gravitas, while simultaneously keeping the team aligned on short term priorities;
  • You'll work closely with teams to understand their goals and needs, always making sure that your teams are supporting them.

This role will give you the opportunity to

  • Choose your path to impact – we believe people are most empowered when they can act autonomously. So rather than telling you what to do, you'll work with your team to create a vision of your own. Of course, you can always gather feedback from smart, curious people across Wise but you'll have the freedom to make your own calls
  • Grow as a leader – Grow and inspire your team to join our mission Get amazing exposure to the full breadth and depth of our product while working with a group of strong and dedicated product managers, engineers, analysts, and operations.
  • Work with a modern microservices system with key parts written In house, which allows to move fast and build controls and experiences that are above industry standards and push the boundaries of what is possible Be part of our mission to make money without borders the new normal

Things that might describe you as a Product professional

  • Customer-focused – You've worked on a large scale product with millions of customers, can put yourself in the customer's shoes and bring your team along in that journey.
  • Product Ops - You've helped autonomous product teams optimise 'how' they build products, i.e. processes / ceremonies etc.
  • Product Strategy - Whilst we expect teams to be closest to their particular part of the product, it's important that we provide the best, most relevant guidance to teams about industry trends, competitors etc.
  • Data-driven – You can pick up the signal from the noise. You are comfortable to dig deep into data, explore and make decisions based on insights

Our Offer

  • Base salary: £140k - £170k gross / year base (based on experience & interview outcomes)
  • Restricted Stock Units (RSUs): https://www.wise.jobs/2021/03/26/the-true value-of-stock-in-a-high-growth-company-like-wise/
  • Numerous amount of other benefits: https://www.wise.jobs/2020/07/07/benefits-in-our-london-office/

We're people without borders — without judgement or prejudice, too. We want to work with the best people, no matter their background. So if you're passionate about learning new things and keen to join our mission, you'll fit right in.

Also, where and what you studied isn't important to us. If you've got great experience, the right skills for the role and you're great at articulating your thinking, we'd like to hear from you.
