Job description

The Senior Product Manager is responsible for leading a cross-functional team that will design, deliver and implement a new grants management system called IPS, that is responsive to the needs of sporting bodies, educational institutions and other organisations who apply for funding to support their local communities, the needs of our government department, DCMS for timely insight on our investments and a range of internal customers e,g, our Investment Management, Insight and Finance.

Sport England currently makes between 5000 and 8000 grants a year worth between £200M and £300M, and it’s likely that the new IPS will run on customized cloud-based third-party software.

The role will initially solely focus on the IPS product; however, over time, you will become responsible for designing and delivering other products as determined by Sport England.

Role Purpose

Design & develop innovative products or services across Sport England that embed the needs of end users either internally or externally as grant recipients.

Skills & Experience

Essential

Extensive experience in leading, coaching and mentoring teams supporting their professional development, and promoting the behaviours, skills, and practices that support user-centered products and services.

Extensive product leadership experience with a focus on building product teams and introducing new ways of working centred around product management into an organisation.

Experience of being accountable for delivering and implementing a technically focussed product or platform into a complex organisation.

Strong experience in:

  • analysing complex systems and processes, to identify opportunities for improvement
  • designing and implementing products to ensure that user needs and target outcomes are being met
  • structuring and managing priorities, framing problems and identifying measurable target outcomes to minimise ambiguity and align effort
  • effectively communicating complex information and ideas through diagrams, visualisations and written narratives
  • engaging with stakeholders at all levels, advocating for agile and user centred ways of working and managing expectations as needed
  • considering the needs of diverse audiences to design accessible and inclusive products.

Desirable

Experience with ways to obtain and measure customer feedback to ensure the product delivers for Sport England customers and well as internal users.
