Job Title: Management Accountant
Responsible to: Managing Director
Salary: £22,200 Part-time 22.5 hours (£37,000 FTE 37.5 hours)
Job Purpose
- Oversee financial operations such as payroll, invoicing, and other transactions, to ensure accuracy and completeness. This includes creating the Purchase Ledger, Sales Ledger, Payroll, making payments and reconciliation with bank accounts.
- Support with credit control and collection of debts on a timely basis. Liaise with local authorities, health boards and service users to resolve queries and issues.
- Produce monthly and annual management and financial accounts to include analysis and commentary on areas of Profit and Loss, Balance Sheet, Cashflow, and company performance.
- Work with external advisors, including accountants, banks, insurers, legal advisers, auditors, HMRC etc.
- Prepare, review and deliver corporate and deferred tax calculations for statutory reporting.
- Ensure that all processes, procedures and controls have been applied, including the maintenance/development/improvement of internal controls reporting and associated documentation.
Accountabilities
- Financial control – Ensure that strong controls are in place over payment processes, and expenditure is authorised and made in accordance with financial regulations. Calculate accruals and provisions and ensure balance sheet accounts, bank reconciliations and loan balances are reconciled and reviewed on a timely basis.
- Forecasting – Create and monitor financial forecasts to ensure it reflects known and expected changes within the business, including cashflow forecasts to ensure sufficient funding is in place to meet expenditure.
- Management accounts – Preparation of monthly management accounts, accruals and prepayments analysis as well as analysis of income and expense codes. Interpret the results and collaborate with operational staff to identify trends, highlight anomalies, and provide detailed variance analysis.
- Payables - Process and make payment of invoices, staff and company expenses, and wages, and deal with queries as necessary. Ensure that Tax, HMRC, pension and enforcement payments are made on time. Using our software, produce employee pay slips, P60’s, P11D’s, P45’s and other PAYE records, and ensure they are provided to employees and submitted to HMRC in accordance with statutory requirements.
- Receivables – Prepare and submit external sales invoices and take responsibility for working with customers for payment of those invoices. Ensure coding in journals and ledgers are complete and that all balances reconcile at the end of each month.
- Secretarial – Ensure information held on the company by Companies House is up to date, which includes but is not limited to, Articles of Association, Confirmation Statements, Persons with Significant Control, Shareholding, Registration of Charges, and submission of annual accounts.
- Statutory reporting – Complete annual financial statements, ensuring that accounts are compliant with financial reporting standards and statements of recommended practice. Provide all requested documentation and reconciliations in advance of scheduled external audit visits and before any internal audit reviews and ensure that statutory returns are completed before required deadlines.
- Systems – Ensure the accounting system and document management system are updated, making certain that new supplier details are checked for accuracy and ensuring good quality data is posted to the systems and all appropriate checks and controls are in place.
Knowledge/Skills/Experience
Essential
- Qualified accountant CIMA/ACCA/ACA or other accountancy qualification.
- Minimum of 3 years’ experience in similar role.
- Microsoft Excel to Advanced and excellent knowledge Sage accounts
- Attention to detail.
- Ability to build and maintain relationships with suppliers.
- Strong accounting and tax knowledge, including Corporation Tax, VAT and PAYE
- Experience of producing payroll and making statutory submissions and payments.
- Able to work under pressure and using own initiative.
- Adaptable and willing to take on new challenges.
- Experience of year end reporting processes through to delivery of Annual Report and associated materials.
- Proven experience reviewing and analysing data & complex technical accounting issues, drawing out key matters of significance and interpreting them to finance and non-finance colleagues.
Desirable
- Understanding of Barclays banking software including Barclays.Net.
- Knowledge of local authority care funding.
