Government
Inmarsat’s Government business unit delivers against the requirements for voice, data and video services with demand for global availability and utmost reliability. Whether a military commander on operations, a government official responding to a local emergency or a head of state conducting international affairs, Inmarsat provides them with essential access to voice and broadband data, where and when they need it.
Primary role purpose:
The satellite industry is facing severe disruption over the coming years as new entrants and technological advances fundamentally transform the market. As a result, the competitive challenges for the traditional satellite players are increasing at an unprecedented level. Faced with this new reality, achieving growth in our traditional markets will become ever more challenging.
Against this backdrop the Strategy and Growth Programmes team leads the charge for Global Government (G2) in developing and executing strategies and plans that keep Inmarsat competitive in our markets today and into the future. One such initiative is the Chorus programme through which G2 seeks to expand their satellite communications business in the global aeronautical market segment. We are looking to provide a scalable and flexible beyond line-of-sight communication solution, for regional operations, to disseminate mission system data in real time from the airborne platforms to key end-users. The programme is expected to deliver a compelling platform-based solution for this segment backed by a comprehensive go-to-market and capture strategy.
The Government Aero Innovation Manager will be responsible for planning and delivering the capabilities under Chorus programmes, as well as the wider government aeronautical capability roadmap as needed.
To this end, the role holder will be focused on 3 areas:
- Capability Development - The role will guide and coordinate the terminal capability developments for the Chorus programme, and the wider government aeronautical market to meet customer requirements and create unique competitive advantage in support of G2’s strategy and growth programmes.
- Innovation - The role will contribute to G2’s technology evaluation and roadmap planning, engage in the collaboration between G2, USG and CTO, coordinating requirements for development of new government aeronautical capabilities; and externally interface with the wider industry to explore the technological applications to G2.
- Subject Matter Expertise - The role will act as SME for the Chorus product set as well as the wider G2 aeronautical product work across functions to i) contribute to the documentation of business case, ii) develop product/service description documents and iii) assist with compelling storytelling and market facing collaterals.
Key responsibilities:
- Lead the execution of terminal capability developments under the Chorus programme and the wider government aeronautical market as needed, up to product launch
- Engage in the analysis of G2 market and strategy, assist in the identification of competitive advantages G2 can leverage from a technological perspective for the government aeronautical market
- Support the definition of the government aero product strategy & roadmap and contribute to the evaluation and feasibility assessment of growth programmes such as Chorus
- Document the technical proposition and write technical product requirements to support the development activities (e.g., management briefs, RFI, RFPs, etc.)
- Contribute to the business case developments to secure investments for expanding the Chorus portfolio and the wider government aeronautical capability set, as needed
- Work across internal functions and third parties to assess, establish and manage partnerships for launching the Chorus product set and other government aeronautical capabilities, as needed.
- Manage the development of product/service description documents in fine and explicit details.
- Work across functions with the go to market, sales, commercial and market development teams to ensure training materials and compelling storytelling and market facing collaterals can be effectively produced.
- Work with other business units to coordinate the product requirements for delivering the Chorus product set and the wider government aeronautical capability set
- Work with CTO to facilitate knowledge sharing on Inmarsat's networks and capabilities, for enhancing the Chorus capability set as well as the wider government aeronautical portfolio
- Work with key OEMs and other third-party organisation to understand and document key developments in the market.
- Any other tasks and responsibilities as may reasonably be required.
Essential Knowledge and Skills:
- Experience in aeronautical product development or system integration
- Excellent technical writing skills.

- Bachelor’s degree in a related engineering discipline, master’s degree or above preferred.
Desired Knowledge and Skills:
- Experience working with and delivering services and projects related to satellite terminals or other remote communication systems is highly regarded.
- Business to government industry experience is desired.
- Related commercial experience is bonus.
