Product Developer NPD (Food Production) – 12 Month FTC
Based in Derby
£30,000 - £35,000
Monday – Friday 9am – 5pm
Bernard Matthews Derby is a food manufacturing company based in Derby, we are part of the Boparan Holdings group that contains multiple food brands and restaurants. At our Derby site, we specialise in poultry with 3 key production areas; ‘RTE - ready to eat’, ‘RTC - ready to cook’ and our Butchery site – supplying to a range of customers such as: M&S, Tesco, Aldi, Co-op, Nandos.
Role Summary:
To drive progression along the critical path within Product Development and work as the internal stakeholder to drive the customer agenda on site and effectively deliver future business planning
- To support, manage and deliver key projects with support from the wider NPD team
- To actively take part in driving the food and people strategy across the NPD function
- Assisting with the preparation of kitchen made samples as required to support the chefs/product developers in preparation for internal panels, nutritional testing, and customer presentations
- Input recipes onto the system to assess the cost and nutritional information and ensure delivery against the brief. Ensure raw material trackers etc are all kept up to date as required
- Complete organoleptic testing throughout the product shelf-life cycle documenting the findings and making suggestions for recipe reformulations to ensure the required shelf-life is achieved and quality standards are maintained. Supporting on process trials as required
- Undertake recipe/ingredient validation and packaging tests in line with the NPD procedures
Key Responsibilities:
· Support the management of the creative process within your retailer/s, from creating a culture where the ideas of the team are maximised and lead to creative solutions
· Identify and suggest food trends to influence concept direction contributing to cross functional working with Marketing & Commercial teams and aligned on the category vision
· Act as the retailer’s voice on site to ensure that issues are identified and resolved promptly
· Be a key to driving great food for your retailer and across 2SFG, to maximise the impact of food credentials within the manufacturing unit and with external customers
· Assist in defining the PD strategy for your category area
· Support the NPD team with the business innovation strategy
You will have…
· Has a passion & flare for food
· Has a desire to succeed within a close team structure, happy to “muck in” as required
· Someone with a keen eye for detail, along with the ability to communicate effectively across our business
· Has FMCG experience – Desirable
· Understands the tools and principles of PD and strategic management – Desirable
· Project management experience – Desirable
· Proven track record of presenting to retailers / customers – Desirable
Job Type: Fixed term contract
Contract length: 12 months
Salary: £30,000.00-£35,000.00 per year
