What We Do
Our Learning & Engagement team are the broker between our artists and our audiences, working in our venues, local community, and educational settings to create bespoke inspirational projects which are fully integrated with our on-stage programme.
We work with young people in Perth Youth Theatre, and through schools and nurseries; adults, including vulnerable members of society and those living in rural areas of Perthshire where arts provision is limited or absent; community groups and other partners such as ESOL Perth, Mindspace, the national youth orchestras and YTAS. Our activities offer the chance to explore a person’s creativity, develop new skills and build confidence. We work hard to support people of all ages and from all walks of life to realise their full potential.
Current Projects include:
Our award-winning Gig on a Truck, a portable stage bringing shared connection through music to thousands in schools, care homes and communities with free gigs by local bands and singers throughout Perth & Kinross.
A range of regular, weekly classes in both music and drama for children and young people where participants have the opportunity to work alongside professional theatre makers and musicians to create their own work.
Weekly Dance for Parkinson’s sessions, creative writing for those suffering from mental health issues, and voice workshops for people with English as a second language, plus, our new four-year project developing audiences from the Polish diaspora across all programming strands.
What We Need
We’re looking for an experienced creative learning professional to produce our annual programme of outreach projects including Gig on a Truck, My Story, My Stage, Transforming Audience Travel Through Art and to manage community involvement with our in-house productions, most notably, Panto. You will work closely with the programmers, Development and Marketing teams to drive engagement and collaborate with partners, practitioners, and communities throughout Perth & Kinross.
You will have a strong background in creative learning, participatory projects, audience development or community practice with expertise in a number of the following: music, theatre, creative learning, and / or creative producing is essential. You’ll also have strong demonstrable experience of managing projects and people, knowledge and understanding of working in schools and informal educational contexts.
The Role
Job Title: Outreach Producer
Status: 37.5 hours per week
Reports to: Head of Learning & Engagement
Salary: £25,147.20
This job description details the principal purpose and main elements of the job at this time. It is a guide to the nature of the main duties as they currently exist but is not intended to be all-inclusive. The post holder is expected to work flexibly and respond positively to changing business needs.
You will be responsible for coordinating a high-quality programme of outreach activities for communities across Perth & Kinross. These activities will include projects that take place out with our venues or focus on engaging new audiences and participants in our work. You will be involved in the planning, production, delivery and evaluation of these projects, aiming to reach new and diverse audiences with the work of Perth Theatre and Concert Hall. You will coordinate freelance creative practitioners working on these projects and develop strong working relationships with partner organisations. You will also provide support to other projects being delivered by the Learning & Engagement team where necessary.
Responsibilities
- Coordination of all of Perth Theatre and Concert Hall’s Outreach activities, with a focus on creating activities, projects and events that are community-focused, beneficial to the people we are working with, responsive to the needs, ambitions and assets of local communities, are well organised and are delivered to high production values;
- Administration relating to the above activity, including coordinating freelance creative practitioners working on projects;
- Delivery and facilitation of workshops and events in our venues and in external venues;
- Supporting the output of marketing and social media for the Learning & Engagement programme;
- Coordinating and supporting work placements, traineeships and professional development schemes for creative practitioners;
- Assisting with the development of materials that will support audience engagement with the work of Perth Theatre and Concert Hall;
- Providing a point of contact for enquiries about the Learning & Engagement programme from participants and partner organisations to parents/guardians, staff and other enquiries;
- Maintaining detailed records of projects including budgets, contact databases, workshop reports, audience and participant feedback and evaluations of projects;
- Working collaboratively with the wider team at Perth Theatre and Concert Hall to ensure strong communication and effective delivery of projects;
- Helping to maintain and support cross sectoral and strategic partnerships;
- Attending internal team meetings and any other relevant meetings as required;
- Representing Perth Theatre and Concert Hall at meetings, conferences and other event as appropriate;
- Attending appropriate training sessions to develop skills and ensure best practice;
- Implementing effective monitoring and evaluation of all projects and activities;
- Participating in appropriate creative learning networks;
- Supporting the delivery of the wider Learning & Engagement programme;
- Complying with the organisation’s equal opportunities policy and practice, child protection policy, health and safety practices and principles and standards relating to quality management and customer care.

Person Specification
As this post undertakes regulated work with children, the post holder will be required to undergo a PVG Scheme check, administered by Disclosure Scotland.
We are interested in applications from people with different backgrounds and involvement in creative learning practice. You may be a practitioner, a producer, a community worker, a teacher, a policy maker or an artist.
We are looking for skills in the following areas:
- Strong experience of working creatively and designing innovative creative learning projects in response to community need;
- At least 1 years’ experience of leading innovative creative engagement practice, delivering high quality music and/or theatre projects in schools, in community settings and with a diverse range of participants;
- Evidence of working with arts professionals, teachers, and others in the cultural sector, and in both formal and informal educational environments;
- Good artistic judgement across participatory projects and on-stage work;
- Ability to communicate at all levels and with a large variety of groups and communities;
- Excellent interpersonal skills with an ability to engage with people from a wide range of backgrounds;
- Knowledge and understanding of the arts in education and community creative learning contexts;
- Evidence of successful project and budget management;
- Knowledge of arts and public sector fundraising;
- Strong group facilitation skills which empower and enable;
- Ability to work flexibly with flair, energy, and enthusiasm.
Desirable:
- First Aid Certificate;
- Child Protection Training;
- Knowledge or experience of creative learning in more than one art form;
- Clean UK Driving License, with own transport or access to transport.
Terms & Conditions
Salary: £25,147.20 paid monthly by bank credit transfer on the last working day of the month. No paid overtime or infringements are payable;
Annualised hours of 37.5 hours per week (1950 per annum). Evening and weekend work are a requirement of the post; Flexible working on and off-site – you will be required to attend sessions, workshops, meetings, and other events in locations across Perth & Kinross and occasionally elsewhere in Scotland;
Annual Leave entitlement is 30 days (rising by 2 days after 3 years’ service plus an additional 3 days after 5 years’ service) including 10 days Public Holidays (4 fixed – Christmas Day, Boxing Day, New Year’s Day, 2nd January).
The Company operates auto-enrolment and has a Pension Scheme in place. We will comply with legislation around auto-enrolment including opt-in and opt-out arrangements.
This role is subject to a 6-month probationary period. During probation, notice will be 1 week, and subsequent to the successful completion of probation, notice shall be 3 months.
