ABC News Washington Bureau is hiring a Supervising Producer for its Pennsylvania Avenue Unit. The Supervising Producer directs the congressional team both editorially and logistically. This producer leads reporting efforts on Capitol Hill and coordinates the coverage of day-to-day and breaking news for the Senate and the House teams. This position works closely with the Senior Hill Correspondent and under the direction of the Pennsylvania Avenue leadership team to design and execute daily story coverage plans. This role calls for someone with extensive congressional and/or political reporting experience. In addition, this person needs to be an expert communicator - coming up with a vision and a plan and clearly communicating that plan with the team as well as coordinating with all platforms.
Responsibilities:
- Leads our congressional team in day-to-day reporting and breaking news; partners closely with ABC News leadership to develop longer term strategies for reporting congressional stories.
- Manages and develops a team of skilled journalists, responsible for reporting and producing content on all ABC News platforms
- Manages creative relationships with seasoned, respected on-air talent
- Maintains – and continuously builds – sourcing network
- Lead the team in developing new techniques for telling stories across platforms
Basic Qualifications:
- Minimum of 6 years experience working in broadcast news
- Must have extremely strong editorial skills
- Must have strong writing/scripting skills
- Must have an ability to work in a fast-paced environment and handle developing news situations
- Must have excellent communication skills both written and verbal
- Must be willing to work a flexible schedule to accommodate special events including nights, weekends and holidays
Preferred Qualifications:
- 8 or more years of broadcast news experience, with a strong focus in political or congressional reporting
Required Education:
- Bachelors degree from a four-year accredited university or equivalent work experience
The hiring range for this position in Washington, D.C. is $131,680 to $181,060 per year. The base pay actually offered will take into account internal equity and also may vary depending on the candidate’s geographic region, job-related knowledge, skills, and experience among other factors. A bonus and/or long-term incentive units may be provided as part of the compensation package, in addition to the full range of medical, financial, and/or other benefits, dependent on the level and position offered.
