Process Safety Manager

As a Process Safety Manager, you will get the opportunity to work on a lower tier COMAH site within an expanding business. It is thriving environment to be part of due to lots of investment happening with expansion in capacity. You will get the chance to shape and implement your own ideas of process improvement program across the site.

Job Purpose

Provide management and central co-ordination of the Irvine Site’s Process Safety activities aimed at reducing the risk from fire, explosion and toxic hazards including Major Accident Hazards (COMAH) and to limit their consequences.

Manage and support the site through the Site Business Continuity Planning process in accordance with GSK Policies, to manage and implement strategies, plans and measures, appropriate to the needs of the site, corporate functions and external stakeholders, ensuring long term operability.

In this role you will…

  • Ensure the Site’s compliance with COMAH regulations by
    • maintaining the Major Accident Prevention Policy
    • managing COMAH inspections by the HSE
    • conducting COMAH Audits
  • Develop and implement a Process Safety Policy which defines Intent, key elements/arrangements in place, roles and responsibilities and cover Major Accident Hazards.
  • Ensure both qualitative and quantified analysis methods are used where appropriate to assess risk and compare against the tolerable risk criteria to assist with decision making
  • Identify control measures to address any risk gaps to allow Process Owners to implement action plans to reduce risk of major accident hazards on the Site and track closure.
  • Maintain and update the Site Basis of Safety files to ensure compliance with both regulatory and corporate standards
  • Conduct Process Hazard Reviews for new processes and ensure existing processes are current.
  • Track, leading and lagging process safety performance indicators for the Site and report to the Senior Management Team to measure the effectiveness of the Site’s Process Safety Management System. This includes an annual review.
  • Conduct a review of incident investigations and near misses to ensure process safety learnings are fed into the Process Safety Management System.
  • Keep abreast of legislative/regulatory changes, conduct gap analysis and take appropriate action to ensure compliance.
  • Ensure the importance & understanding of Process Safety issues across site via various means including training courses, metrics, publications, audits etc.
  • Oversee the continued development and maintenance of the Site Emergency Response Procedures, Systems and Teams to ensure compliance with COMAH. Also ensure the Site Crisis Management Procedure and training is maintained.
  • Ensure the site’s Highly Protected Risk (HPR) status is maintained
  • Investigate and report on Loss Events involving CIRM as appropriate.
  • To develop and implement strategies, plans and measures, appropriate to the needs of the site, corporate functions and external stakeholders, ensuring that long term compliance and risk management objectives are met and that there is minimum of risk of Business Interruption (BI).
  • Supports co-ordination of annual responses to the Global Internal Audit (GIA) and Self-Assessment Questionnaire (SAQ) and responsible for follow up on any ensuing issues particularly for non-financial issues.

  • A degree in an appropriate technical discipline or relevant practical experience
  • Relevant experience in plant Operations, Projects, Engineering or similar environment
  • Ability to develop solutions for COMAH and process safety related projects and provide site response to process safety related legislation.
