We are looking for Process Safety Engineers to join our growing Net Zero Energy team with roles based in our offices in Bristol, Glasgow and Stockton-on-Tees. Full-time positions are available, but we will also consider applicants wishing to work part-time.

As a Process Safety Engineer in our Net Zero Energy Business, you'll be part of a talented team reviewing complex new schemes to ensure our clients' assets adhere to safety regulations. With existing relationships with the major clients in the net zero sector, we offer a hugely stimulating variety of work, within a team which is rapidly developing to support the delivery of global net zero targets.

Your purpose:

Due to continued growth supporting our clients in the delivery of projects that meet our economy’s sustainable and net zero objectives, we are seeking Process Safety Engineers to join our team. Aspects of the role will include owning, specifying and reviewing safety requirements for hydrogen production, transportation and storage facilities, developing practices and solutions to improve safety and quality of net zero projects, as well as assisting with the delivery of proposals and bids for future projects. The role may also require you to support other sectors within our nuclear and power business. We are recruiting across a number of locations including Bristol, Glasgow and Stockton where you will join a team with a diverse mix of people from all around the world. However, you will be expected to travel and work from client sites across the UK as the role, project or secondment requires.

What you can bring:

At Atkins we are looking for a person with prior experience in consequence modelling software for studies such as Concept Safety Evaluations and Fire Hazard Analysis. Favourable qualities include but are not limited to: knowledge of supporting or conducting hazard workshops and assessments e.g. ALARP, HAZOP, LOPA, ISD, HAZID, Hazardous Area Classification, Qualitative Risk Assessment, Fault Tree Analysis etc. Proven knowledge of legislative requirement associated with major hazards, examples of which may include COMAH, DSEAR, Hazardous Substances Consent, Land Use Planning or Offshore Installation (Safety Case).

We are searching for an applicant with an understanding of project development, engineering design and asset life cycles. It would be desirable to have previous consulting experience, with proven collaboration skills to work within multi-disciplinary teams, and the ability to prepare proposals, coordinate bids and win new projects.

Essential Requirements:

  • University Degree in an appropriate science, engineering, or equivalent experience and qualification.
  • Experience working in process and energy related industries.
  • Experience of conducting hazard analysis studies.
  • Experience in consequence modelling software.
  • Ability to apply your knowledge and experience to support the development of new and innovative processes and high-quality technical reports.
  • Ability to provide a customer-focused service.
  • Motivated to meet delivery/cost targets without compromising quality.
  • Be willing to travel within the UK and willing to work flexibly with occasional out of hours work to accommodate client requirements.
