Process Engineer – ESD
Location, Flexible
An opportunity has arisen for a Process Engineer to join the team at Galliford Try.
The Process Engineer shall be responsible and accountable for the process design element of water and wastewater construction projects within the Environment Business Unit of GT. The overall goal of the Process Engineer is to ensure the successful execution and completion of projects against defined criteria for cost, quality, HSE, and time. Ideally, the candidate should have a good understanding of water and wastewater process design and a proven track record of design and client/contractor relationships. Reporting to one our Process Leads, the successful candidate will have the opportunity to work on a portfolio of different projects across the UK water industry and apply their skills in a range of environments.
What you will be doing:
- Work as part of a multi-disciplinary team
- Carry out the process design from feasibility through to detail design
- Undertake process design calculations and produce Block Flow Diagrams, P&IDs and material and energy balances
- Put together the basis of design capturing purpose, context and conceptual design for the project and individual process units
- Define the scope of works and assist in the production od the Major Equipment Schedule
- Design studies - develop and assess solutions using multi-criteria decision tools
- TOTEX studies – evaluation of options based on capital cost, utilities, and chemical consumption
- Carbon studies – embedded and operational
- Equipment process data sheets, sizing and defining major equipment and safety systems.
- Participate in the production of operating philosophies, commissioning, operating and shutdown procedures
- Liaise with vendors and suppliers
- Participate in design reviews and HAZOP meetings
- Carry out risk assessments and DSEAR studies and implement their finding
About You:
- Comprehensive knowledge of water, wastewater, and sludge treatment design
- Able to work effectively within multidisciplinary design teams and demonstrate effective leadership of process design
- Confidence in personal technical skills and competence in order to support/present technical solutions with clients
- Good computer literacy – MS Word & Excel. Ability to write macros and use models such as Biowin would be considered an advantage
- Able to apply chemical engineering principles and sound engineering judgement
- Confidence in own technical skills and competence in order to support/present technical solutions with clients
- Basic contract and commercial knowledge and experience
- Work to agreed budgets and deadlines
- At least 5 years of relevant experience in contractor or consultancy environment
- Knowledge of Environmental & H&S legislation
- Excellent written and oral communication skills
