Job description
The Process Engineer has the primary responsibility of developing, defining, and improving new and existing manufacturing processes. The position is responsible for developing a deep understanding of assigned manufacturing areas to drive improvements that reduce manufacturing costs, reduce downtime, and improve process stability and capability. An active, hands-on, high-energy approach will be critical to be successful in this role.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities:
- Active, hands-on leader in troubleshooting and root cause analysis of operational issues especially as related to business unit and plant KPI’s.
- Continually improve manufacturing processes by applying knowledge of product design, machine design, and green sand casting processes; as well as conferring with vendors and soliciting observations from plant operators.
- Work within the operational team supporting day-to-day problems and improvements.
- Provide directional recommendations by evaluating production costs, reviewing scheduling practices, and estimating future requirements.
- Directly support assigned process and equipment by coordinating with maintenance / repair services as necessary, establishing preventative maintenance plans, and identifying critical spare parts.
- Ensure necessary process documentation is implemented and updated as needed, including but not limited to work instructions, standard work, maintenance repair procedures, preventative maintenance checklists, and other applicable process control documents.
- Direct efforts to meet and/or exceed compliance with all regulatory bodies, organizations, and government requirements in the performance of position duties.
- Keep Safety and Quality as top priorities in all endeavors
Required Experience and/or Education:
- Bachelor’s Degree in an engineering-related field is required.
- Working experience and/or internship experience as a process engineer in a foundry, specifically in a brass foundry utilizing green sand molding and cold box core making processes is highly desired.
- Experience with Solidworks or an equivalent 3D modelling software is required.
- Experience with AutoCAD or an equivalent drafting software is preferred.
- Six Sigma training is preferred.
- Strong grasp of lean manufacturing concepts is preferred.
- Familiarity with CNC machining process and work holding is a plus.
- Strong leadership, communication, and interpersonal skills with the ability to interact with all levels of employees, customers, and outside professionals.
