Huntsman is seeking a Process Engineer supporting the Advanced Materials Division located in Ashtabula, OH. This position will report to the Engineering Manager.
Job Scope
The Process Engineer utilizes technical information and their knowledge of chemistry to design and develop the processes that make a diverse range of chemical products. Their work focuses on an understanding of how to efficiently alter raw materials into desired products while minimizing health and safety and cost risks.
As the Process Engineer you will:
- Deploy new processes and systems for chemical manufacturing.
- Utilize engineering principles to review technical design information.
- Define process requirements.
- Design processes to meet those requirements.
- Oversee process implementation.
- Lead technical development efforts at the site level.
- Evaluate data, concepts, and feedback from others to identify and develop improvement efforts.
- Work in cross functional teams to review improvement concepts and select projects intended to improve safety, health, efficiency, quality, and cost.
- Provide technical expertise to support design of equipment and processes needed for improvements.
- Generating training and instructions for operation of systems to drive continual improvement efforts.
- Execute projects to deploy manufacturing processes and systems.
- Use effective project management techniques to identify stakeholders and resources.
- Coordinate associated activities with vendors and external contacts.
- Maintain technical documentation for process systems and evaluations.
- Generate and update drawings, calculations, and design specifications of manufacturing systems.
Required Qualifications:
- Bachelor of Science Degree in Chemical Engineering or similar degree from an accredited college or university.
- Excellent organization skills to manage project documentation, costs, and timeline.
- Good written and oral communication skills.
- Good interpersonal and presentation skills
- Ability to work and communicate effectively with all levels of employees to plan, organize, and complete multiple projects from inception to startup.
- Basic understanding of process equipment design including pumps, polymerization reactors, pressure relief valve sizing, material balances, and instrument specifications.
- Proficiency with Microsoft office suite.
- Manufacturing experience with flammable or highly hazardous chemicals, with demonstrated excellent safe work behaviors. (PSM/RMP preferred)
Preferred Qualifications:
- 2+ years of experience leading process design efforts.
- Six Sigma and/or Lean Manufacturing experience preferred.
- Green Belt or Black Belt certification would be advantageous.
- Comfortable functioning in a variety of roles ranging from plant floor troubleshooting and problem solving to leading long term process improvement projects.
