Process Engineer

As a Process Engineer you will employ knowledge and experience of Drug Product unit operations, process engineering and modelling to support the development, scale-up and manufacture of drug product through to commercialization.

As part of your role, you will support technical evaluation and industrialisation of current and new manufacturing platforms (e.g. continuous manufacturing). You will also champion integration of new ways of working into existing QbD workflows (e.g. Process Design, Control Strategy Identification, Risk Assessment), regulatory filing strategies and life cycle planning.

This role is suitable for a newly qualified graduate or graduate with some initial industrial experience where we will support you as you develop to deliver the key responsibilities below.

In this role you will

  • Work as part of a multi-disciplinary development team, liaising efficiently with Formulators, Engineers, Modelers, PAT scientists, Materials Scientists and Particle Scientists, to deliver the work packages required to understand drug product unit operations and scale these-up effectively.
  • Ensure the delivery of Drug Product technology transfer activities and reports as appropriate for transfer to the manufacturing site (internal or external)
  • The role sits at the interface between process understanding and modelling, therefore skills in commonly used programming languages (MATLAB, Python) used to support engineering applications are an advantage.
  • Support acceleration of early phase formulation and process design and minimize number of DOE’s for scalability assessments and API consumption throughout the development life-cycle
  • Support and lead technical work packages to de-risk new manufacturing platforms and inform manufacturing platform selection early in development
  • Make innovative contributions to the department by providing experimental data, technical insight and modelling of data to solve complex process development problems using excellent practical and theoretical understanding.
  • The job holder may act as an expert in specific unit operations. As such, they will be expected to master a body of knowledge for that unit operation and use this to act as the functional expert in the department. This expertise will be focused on platform and process primarily within the NCE portfolio
  • Actively participate in and lead technical reviews on projects, and contribute to the technical transfer of processes, including the leadership of technical transfer activities on behalf of the discipline.
  • Stay current with new modelling techniques through publications, conferences and academic and pre-competitive collaborations
  • Utilise effective planning to deliver the above efficiently and where required, enable work packages to be outsourced.
  • Deliver the above in a precise and timely manner, adhering to safety and quality expectations.
  • Comply with the requirements of Quality, Safety and GSK policies and procedures and ensure that GSK intellectual property is protected.
