Location: Manchester, UK (M17 1PA)
Cargill’s Manchester plant is a large production facility at the hub of the UK food industry. The plant and offices located in Manchester are part of the Cargill starches and sweeteners business producing sweeteners, wheat protein and alcohol for customers in the confectionery, brewing, drink, dairy, farming and bakery sectors.
The Process Development Group (PDG) Engineers provide leadership with a technical and engineering focus to support the Process Development Groups (PDG) priorities for production. This role includes business case development for multiple projects and areas across the plant. The successful candidate will provide direction for the department aligned with the achievement of the site business plan, cost control and process improvements using CI tools and statistical analysis to optimise the process.
The role is a day based, Monday-Friday position at the Manchester site. Some occasional out of hours support will be required. Key Accountabilities
- Identifying & take ownership of opportunities, performing business case analysis and upfront engineering design to address best practice gaps
- Supporting the manufacturing team to trouble shoot process issues, using recognised problem-solving tools e.g., 5Why’s, Kaizen, Lean 6 Sigma, Root Cause Analysis
- Assist and collaboratively support R&D, new initiatives, trials, and eventual implementation of concepts
- Function as the local process representative and be a liaison for peers and PDG members at other manufacturing locations, developing a strong technical network within Cargill
- Become the subject matter expert and identify ways to optimise and improve production performance and ensure knowledge is transferred not only locally but also throughout the business
- Track and control key performance indicators including costs, chemical usage, energy, yields, and operational standards
Minimum Qualifications:
- Bachelor’s Degree in Chemical, Food Engineering, Biochemical Engineering or other relevant engineering disciplines
- Proven Food Manufacturing or Process Engineering experience
- A focus on process safety and risk management at all times
- Ability to influence others and work with multifunctional teams and personnel
- Lean Six Sigma Green Belt
- Project Management experience
- Data analysis capabilities Minitab
- Understanding of PI (data historian), ACAD (auto CAD), MS Project
