Position Summary
The Appleton Plant takes pride in helping co-ops build a strong resume. We try to match the co-op student's interest with the projects that are available. We provide projects with a high level of responsibility and have an impact on our bottom line. Co-op students work with cutting edge paper coating formulation chemistry and technology, high speed production equipment, and have access to extensive Engineering and R&D resources. Exceptional co-op students have the potential for full time employment with Appvion upon graduation. You will be mentored by existing industry professionals and have regular 1-on-1 reviews to promote open communication and to provide constructive feedback. Our culture encourages having fun at work!
Job Location: 825 E Wisconsin Ave, Appleton, WI 54911
Work Schedule: Fully onsite in the Appleton Plant, with a standard work week of 40 hours, with overtime, as needed. On rare occassions, it is possible for co-ops to work some late days, nights, and/or weekends. We have a 24 hour and seven day per week operations in some departments.
We have co-op openings in our engineering department for the following time frames:
- The Fall semester, June through December 2024.
- The Spring semester, January through August 2024.
Compensation: All co-ops are paid and include a generous housing stipend for students that reside outside of the Appleton, WI area. Hourly wages are competitive and are based on experience and education.
Key Responsibilities
- Active involvement in the day-to-day operations of an off-machine coating and converting facility as a process engineer.
- Participation in project work, daily duties, production meetings, and trials are expected.
- Participate actively in continuing a culture that works safely.
Required Education
To qualify for a co-op position, candidates MUST be currently enrolled in a degree program. Education could include individuals earning their B.S., M.S., or Ph. D. in any of the following:
- Chemical Engineering
- Mechanical Engineering
- Paper Science
- Bio-based Products Engineering
- Other Related Fields
Required Knowledge and Skills
- Ability to apply engineering and scientific principles to resolve complex problems and make improvements.
- Capable of working in a flexible, often shifting, manufacturing environment.
- Ability to interact effectively with customers, management, and production personnel.
- Ability to work safely around heavy equipment.
- Self-motivated for project completion, with the ability to work independently.
- Applicants must be presently authorized to work in the U.S. on a regular, full-time basis.
A post-offer background check, and pre-employment physical with a drug screen is required.
