Reporting into the Head of Privacy Governance and Culture, this role encompasses responsibility for providing information governance and data protection support and advice to Royal Mail Plc, Royal Mail Group Limited and the Royal Mail Group of companies (together “RMG”)by establishing the Privacy Governance Information Management System in line with industry standards and best practice.


About the Role
In this governance role, you will hold a unique holistic view of the vast amount of information collated across the Data Protection Office enabling you to draw out critical insights on themes relating to incidents, Business Unit risks, assessments (DPIAs, Assets, Suppliers) etc. to help formulate strategic remediation plans e.g. training , policy and process changes, metric revisions etc.


You will manage, maintain, and govern RMG’s data protection policies, and supporting standards and guidance (including Privacy Notices), ensuring they are up to date/in line with regulatory requirements, and meet the needs of the business..


You will be responsible for the production, management and governance of the privacy risk process and reporting across the DPO team. Alongside this, you’ll manage the production and use of the ICO Accountability tracker, monthly KPIs and Group level enterprise risk reporting to enable the DPO Leadership team monitor compliance and drive actionable improvements from insights derived from the analysis.


You will design, develop, and maintain Privacy Governance Records and Reporting, including Records of Process Activities (ROPA), Assets and 3rd party inventories and other processes and procedures which enable policy compliance and support processes to govern, manage and drive continuous improvement. You’ll work with the Privacy Culture and Change Manager to develop communication channels for privacy policy issues, which effectively engages stakeholders, enhances the presentation of and compliance to RMG’s polices and increases their impact. You will respond to audit, investigations and risk assessment findings and develop and execute policy revisions to fulfill remediation plans.


About you
To truly excel in this role, you’ll possess, and be able to evidence, the skills and experience listed below:

  • Qualification in information governance or in data protection (BCS/ISEB/CIPP/CIPM), or equivalent gained in relevant experience.
  • Strong experience working directly in data protection, with expert knowledge of data protection and information security best practice and applicable data protection legislation,
  • Experience of rigorous analysis of complex issues and proven delivery of pragmatic solutions to problems.
  • Strong analysis, presentation, communication, and negotiation skills.
  • Strong stakeholder management skills and ability to manage internal and external stakeholders to ensure delivery of appropriate quality deliverables
  • Self-motivated with a ‘can-do’ attitude, focused on seeking solutions and possibilities rather than impossibilities.
  • Ability to manage a heavy and varied workload.
  • Ability to adapt in a changing business environment and to embrace and implement change.
  • To work out of normal office hours ‘if and when’ circumstances dictate
  • High degree of comfort with technology
