Offshore Renewable Energy Catapult is recruiting a PRINCIPAL R&D ENGINEER - BALANCE OF PLANT for the sites in Blyth or Glasgow, to be a 'guru' for queries around this topic and provide technical leadership related to Balance of Plant infrastructure design and development for an offshore wind farm.
This role will be focused on the development of cutting-edge technology, knowledge and industry standards for this topic and ensure we occupy a leading position in industry and the R&D community.
What will I do?
- Develop and lead a team to deliver R&D and technical activities around Balance of Plant, including cabling systems, substations, mooring systems, material durability and protection, cost, carbon emissions and transformers
- Deliver technical research and innovative solutions for the offshore renewable energy infrastructure
- Develop, plan and lead R&D strategy and effective programmes in this topic area
- Develop technical reports, publications and articles for both internal and external meetings, events and conferences
- Provide technical supervision and mentoring to the team and project delivery
What are we looking for?
- Good knowledge of Balance of Plant topics for offshore renewable energy
- Experience of Balance of Plant technology, including inter-array cable systems, export cables, submarine cable design and cable system solutions
- Degree in Electrical Engineering or relevant scientific discipline, or equivalent
- Strong experience in R&D and/or industrial design in a relevant discipline
- Sound R&D or technical team management experience
- Excellent communication and presentation skills
- Experience with one or more relevant software packages including OrcaFlex, Abaqus, Ansys, COMSOL, Matlab/Simulink or equivalent
- Experience producing research and / or technical reports
