We are looking for a motivated Principal Data Analyst who will deliver actionable insights and data tools to drive forward our customer engagement and strategy.
In this varied role based in the Central Analytics Team, you will work on exciting projects spanning across the whole BBC portfolio as well as off-platform channels. With your advanced technical skills, you’ll tackle big-scale analytics projects to provide easy to digest information for stakeholders and foster data literacy at the BBC. You will deliver the business value from various data sources including digital analytics data, the BBC’s own metadata systems and 3rd party datasets. Your role will be pivotal in fulfilling data needs and managing relationship with teams in the Chief Customer Officer Group and colleagues working in disciplines like Research, Content and Marketing.
Main ResponsibilitiesAs a Principal Data Analyst your responsibilities will include:
- Delivering data analytics projects and insights at scale
- Leading on analytics requirements while working collaboratively in cross-discipline project groups to improve the BBC’s data capabilities
- Creating dashboards and visualisations to enable stakeholders to self-serve
- Maintaining and proactively identifying opportunities to improve our existing data tools and pipelines
- Building data automation processes and pipelines that bring 3rd party datasets into our systems
- Communicating insights in a compelling way to convey a clear story to senior stakeholders
- Training and mentoring junior analysts
- Providing technical expertise and acting as a first point of contact for analytics queries from non-data oriented colleagues
- Developing your own analytics skills and keeping up to date with the latest industry developments
- Writing documentation and maintaining knowledge hubs
Essential
- Educated to degree level or above in STEM subject or equivalent experience
- Strong background in the data analytics field
- Proven experience of using data for customer insights and recommendations
- Ability to build visualisations and dashboards using tools like Tableau, R Shiny or similar
- Advanced SQL skills and working proficiency in another coding language e.g. R or Python
- Experience developing relationships with stakeholders and explaining complex data to non-technical colleagues
- Pro-active attitude with a problem solving mindset
- Team-player able to juggle multiple projects simultaneously
Desirable
- Interest in and good knowledge of the BBC services
- Experience of using digital analytics data and understanding of tracking implementation e.g. Google Analytics, Piano (AT Internet), Adobe Analytics
- Skills in line managing or mentoring junior staff members
- Experience of liaising with third-party suppliers to develop new data solutions
