We are currently recruiting a proficient Principal CAD Technician to join our Transport Infrastructure (Bridges) team in Reading. You will support a variety of highway and railway bridge projects, as well as other civils structures projects, varying in size and complexity. You will work with various level designers and technicians to deliver bridge/ civil structures schemes. Your duties will include, but will not be restricted to:
- Production and of 2D & 3D drawings varying from general arrangement and concrete outlines to reinforcement detail drawings including bar bending schedules as well as structural steel detailing and structure 3D models;
- Coordination with different disciplines, both internal and external, regards to drawings and models’ production to correctly manage the interface between the highway/railway structures whilst incorporating other party’s requirements;
- Lead & supervision of production of 2D & 3D drawings and models by junior technicians;
- Assisting in the development of junior technicians where required by supporting and mentoring them;
- Checking drawings and models for accuracy and quality of your output, as well as work produced by others’, ensuring outputs meet the required standards;
Looking to the future, your career path opportunities would entail preparation of high-quality 3D models and visualisations including fly-through and construction sequence animations for bridges, helping with the Production of Building Information Modelling (BIM) documentation across various projects and helping to coordinate with different disciplines, both internal and external, to prepare and maintain BIM models.

ABOUT YOU
Ideally you have a BTEC or HND in Civil Engineering, and have strong practical experience of drafting and detailing bridges/ structures, ideally within a consultancy environment.
You will possess an excellent understanding and have gained strong practical experience of using relevant software packages AutoCAD, Revit, MicroStation, Civil 3D and CADS-RC in a similar structures-based role.
Your practical experience of using MicroStation and CADS-RC 3D would be beneficial but not essential. You have appreciation of quality standards and experience in checking the quality of your and others work, following workflows and guidance, working under pressure & delivering against deadlines.
Importantly, your passion and experience of delivering quality infrastructure design solutions will be crucial to your success in this role.
