Are you a bridge engineer with up to 2 years post chartership experience looking to join a team that have an established track record of successfully delivering bridge engineering schemes for more than 30 years throughout the UK, as well as supporting other disciplines with our specialist input?
If so, we are looking for an experienced Principal Engineer to join our team in Bristol to work on a variety of highways structures design, strengthening, repair and assessment schemes.
Our Bristol office has an established track record of successfully delivering major transport schemes. Our modern office in the heart of Bristol is within easy reach of Temple Meads, Harbourside and Cabot Circus and comprises a vibrant and diverse mix of sectors and disciplines including Buildings & Places, Environment, Programme Cost Consulting and a large Transportation team including both Roads, Rail and Bridges disciplines. The team provides design, assessment, inspection, repair / remediation, construction support and management services on a wide range of transport infrastructure projects.
Our Bristol bridges office is part of our national network of over 450 Bridge Engineers and technicians working seamlessly to deliver a wide range of challenging projects.
Our current portfolio of works comprises a mix of local and national bridges and structures projects including long-term frameworks.
A selection of our current and recent structures projects includes –
West of England Combined Authority (WECA) – AECOM provide TAA support, design and asset management services to the four local authorities that make up WECA including Bristol City Council, South Gloucestershire Council, Bath & North-East Somerset Council and North Somerset Council. We help support the local authorities through technical advice including departures from standards and AiP approvals, and providing consulting services including assessments, remediation, strengthening and detailed design of new structures in accordance with DMRB and Eurocode standards.
CORMAC – AECOM appointed as ‘strategic delivery partner’ providing numerous transportation services including bridges to Cornwall County Council on behalf of CORMAC; schemes include bridge replacement, bridge refurbishments and structures remediation.
South Wales Trunk Road Agent (SWTRA) – AECOM are engaged to provide engineering support services within the ‘Central’ section. Recent schemes have included pier impact assessments / strengthening and feasibility studies for the refurbishment of salt barns.
Network Rail Design Services Framework (DSF) – AECOM engaged to undertake remediation works to Network Rail’s structural assets includes scoping reports, options reports, investigation findings reports and remedial strengthening and/or repairs through F001 to F003.
Civils Assessment Framework Agreement (CAFA) – AECOM appointed across five routes for the CAFA framework contracts. Our Bristol team leads the delivery of the Western Route and supports Wales and Wessex Routes in undertaking Level 1 & Level 2 assessments of overbridges, footbridges and underbridges to a multitude of structural materials and structure forms.
Job Responsibilities:
- Take a leading role in the implementation of health & safety and wellbeing best practice into the delivery of all works.
- Act as a technical lead for the delivery of bridges end market projects.
- Lead, line manage and develop a delivery focused team of Engineers and Technicians.
- Act as Supervising Civil Engineer (SCE) to trainees working towards Chartership.
- Secure and deliver works to new and existing clients.
- Project management of schemes including client reporting, programming, resource planning and commercial management.
MINIMUM REQUIREMENTS:
- Experience with bridge inspection, assessment and design schemes.
- Proven project management experience delivering to quality, time and budget.
- Extensive experience in road and/or rail projects in the UK.
- Previous exposure with clients including local authorities, National Highways, Network Rail and ideally Principal Contractors.
- Proven ability to manage staff and project Health and Safety responsibilities including compliance with CDM legislation.
- Chartered Engineer with ICE, IStructE or other appropriate.
PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS:
- A degree, preferably to MSc/MEng level in Bridge, Civil or Structural Engineering.
- Recently chartered (IEng or CEng)
- A clear work history and proof of professional development and learning
