Job Title: After School Club Assistant
Responsible to: Deputy Manager/Manager
Job Purpose:
- Work with the team to create and maintain excellent standards of care in a stimulating fun environment which enables learning and development of happy enquiring minds.
- To work collaboratively with the Deputy Manager, Nursery Manager and other team members in meeting the personal, social and learning needs of children, including those with special needs and/or bilingual needs, and to establish positive relationships with children, staff and parents.
- To represent the Nursery in a professional manner at all times by valuing the building, wearing correct uniform, respecting confidentiality and dealing with matters professionally and sensitively
Supporting Children:
- To create effective planning and activities to entertain the children of all ages
- To deliver planning and activities with enthusiasm. To provide your primary attention to the activity and the children taking part whilst being mindful of other children within the room.
- To support the children during free flow activities and opportunities safely.
- To follow safeguarding procedures, policies and welfare requirements.
- To attend courses needed for professional development and to benefit the Nursery.
- To assist in devising of children’s individual activities, evaluate and review.
- To support children to access activities on offer.
- To complete assessment and welfare paperwork when necessary i.e. concerns forms
- To develop positive relationships with children and staff to assist general well-being and calm & pleasant atmosphere within the Nursery.
- To evaluate activities on a regular basis and input into plans at staff meetings.
- To liaise with parents on a daily basis regarding the welfare of their child and any school communication
- To assist in the specific medical/care needs of children and complete medical records.
Supporting Deputy Manager/ Nursery Manager
- Complete planning to a high standard and within the expected time frame.
- Keep Deputy Manager/Manager informed of any Safeguarding, welfare or development concerns you may have.
- To assist in the supervision and management of children’s behaviour
- Ensure that the equipment in the room is kept clean and stored correctly. Broken toys are reported to room leader and disposed of.
- To maintain hygiene standards in all areas of the room.
- To prepare and serve meals to the children, ensuring food is prepared and stored safely.
- To complete opening/closing checks each day in their entirety
- To communicate with day staff regarding children’s needs, food storage, health and safety, etc.
- To ensure all children on the register are accounted for before leaving the school playground
- To ensure all children are wearing hi-vis jackets on walks
- Assist in the supervision of children on walks/trips
- To provide ideas, materials and activities at staff meetings.
- To undertake certain administrative tasks
- To assist in providing a purposeful, orderly and supportive happy environment for play and learning.
- To be responsible for condition and cleanliness of nursery generally, nursery toys and equipment.
- To support the promotion of positive relationships with parents and outside agencies.
- To work within Thorney Island Nursery Policies and Procedures.
- To have excellent knowledge of Safeguarding and Welfare requirements.
- To cascade course information to other members of staff and store information for reference.
- To attend staff training/meetings both during and outside Nursery opening times
- To take care for their own and other people’s health and safety.
- To have sound knowledge and understanding of our Confidentiality Policy.

Note: This is not an exhaustive list. Post holder may be required to undertake any other duties deemed necessary to support the children and team at Thorney Island Nursery. Staff are asked to support other team members and share work load fairly.

Salary: £7.49-£10.42 per hour
