Job description
Our 3-year olds are looking for a new teacher to join them as soon as possible.
They want someone who will take the time to get to know them and laugh and play with them, someone who will make them feel welcomed, nurtured, and special during their time at school. They know it will be hard at times, but they want someone who will acknowledge them and won't get angry with them while they are learning alternate behaviors and can teach them that there is no shame in occasional potty accidents.
Most of them have come from our 2-year old program in the same room where they learned about sharing, using their words, and potty training. Now they are ready to expand their horizons and become experts at letters, numbers, shapes, and recognizing their own names. They’ve figured out how to use their fingers and now need to develop those muscles needed for fine movements like cutting, coloring, and writing.
Stepping Stones Preschool in Los Altos provides full-day, year-round care for children from infants to Pre-K. We have been providing quality care in Los Altos for 25 years. We don't force children into classes. We put children in groups based on age. This means that each child moves on at an appropriate time for them and each group has a smaller age range.
Stepping Stones is owned by the directors. They are former teachers who know the teacher's perspective. We have a purpose-built center tucked between Covington Elementary School and Rosita Park. We have large bright classrooms with a huge beautiful playground.

The Three’s Group (We also call it the Transition Group) shares a classroom with our Twos group to foster speech development and mentoring. We use a 1:8 ratio in this classroom. It's a huge classroom with an inside play structure for hot, cold, or wet days (or any day!). Our child size bathroom is open to the classroom to make supervising potty time easy to do.
In order to qualify for this position, you must have at least 12 Early Childhood Education (ECE) units.
This opening is for a full-time position with hours of 8:30 to 5:30, and is a closing position. This means that occasionally you may need to stay a few minutes late. We charge parents a late fee that is split between the two closing teachers, and you’re also paid overtime. We provide a one-hour lunch and two ten-minute breaks. These are the only hours we have available.
We pay over 93% of medical insurance premiums. We also offer dental insurance and greatly discounted tuition for staff children. After one year, we also offer a 401K retirement plan with a 4% match. We close for 3 full weeks and 7 days of paid holidays each year and offer and additional 3 paid sick days and 4 paid vacation days.
In exchange for protecting, playing, and guiding these three-year olds, we pay between $22.50 and $34.50 per hour. Pay is completely and solely (and strictly) based on education and experience. Some examples:
- With just 12 ECE units and 1 year experience, pay is $23.50/hr
- With 15-25 ECE units and 5 years experience, pay is $25.00/hr
- An AA degree in ECE and 10 years experience, pay is $30.00/hr
- A Bachelors in ECE and 20 years experience, pay is $34.50/hr
We are not prepared to sponser any work visas at this time.
