To help us recruit social workers who are committed to working in Middlesbrough we are currently offering a 15% supplement to social work salaries. This additional 15% will be reviewed at the end of October 2023.

Middlesbrough: the place to live, work and visit! A diverse and lively town, proud of its heritage and ambitious to shape its future. Home of the famous “Parmo” and proud owners of the “Transporter Bridge.”

Children’s Services in Middlesbrough have been on a journey of continuous improvement and this is now evidenced in our regular Ofsted monitoring visits. Innovative and creative practice is at the heart of our work and our new Pre-Birth Team is an example of this new approach.

To help us grow and develop this exciting team we are looking to recruit two exceptional Social Workers who are passionate about working relationally with parents and their extended families and able to work collaboratively with partner agencies.

You will be part of a highly skilled team who are committed to put relationships at the heart of everything they do. The primary focus is supporting parents or extended families care for their baby and ensure they have access to the specialist help they need. The Senior Leadership Team are fully committed to this ethos and you will be given the support and consent to develop your own ideas and “think outside the box”.

Together with our key partner agencies we have worked hard to develop a multi agency forum that ensures our families get timely help and coordinated support at the earliest opportunity. With this support social workers are able to undertake robust analytical evidence based assessments that lead to sound judgements, decision making and planning thus reducing drift and delay.

You will have access to a trauma informed practice lead and experienced team manager who provides individual and group supervision and a safe reflection space to inform analysis and care planning.

In return, we will provide you with a competitive salary, a comprehensive training offer and an excellent benefits package.

We are really pleased to be able to add to our adverts our new 15% market supplement, on top of your monthly pay, with no contracted obligations and we feel this will help recruit the kind of social workers we want on board.

We are a considerate employer that recognises that many Social Workers are working parents or have caring responsibilities and we work to be flexible, so that you can do both jobs those well, with our support.

We are just as passionate about getting it right for our staff as we are for our children, and we have realistic and colourful Practice Standards that bring this to life.

We want social workers to strive for the best for the children of Middlesbrough just as we would for our children at home. Middlesbrough are fully committed to a developed improvement plan and are pleased to be working with our children, young people and their families, our employees and partner agencies to transform our social work practices and priorities and make a difference to the lives of the families and young people of Middlesbrough.

Why work for Middlesbrough?

Middlesbrough place a high level of importance on the development of our staff and the Centre for Practice Development and Social Work Academy ensure that all staff have access to a range of high quality current evidence based research, training, support and resources.

You will join our fast paced, dynamic, friendly supportive team of social workers, promoting professional curiosity, a whole family approach, innovation, and a focus on helping families and to manage risk. If you want to be part of the transformation making a real difference to people’s lives, you will be passionate about working with children, operate with integrity and have a strong focus on keeping children safe within their families.

Based in the centre of Middlesbrough, you can benefit from free parking, flexible working including work from home with varying patterns, giving greater work life balance to our practitioners. We do ask that 1 day in 5 is office based and that you are available for team development session.

Middlesbrough are also dedicated to employees Health & Wellbeing and have been awarded maintaining excellence in the Better Health at Work.

You will be registered with Social Work England and prepared to work in various locations in Middlesbrough.
