Job Title: Accountant
Salary: £28,900 to £32,625 (FTE) £12,497 to £14,108 for 16 hours
per annum + pension contribution (10.6%)

Reports to: Chief Executive/Practice Accountant
Responsible for: No line management responsibilities
MAIN DUTIES
To provide financial management training, advice and information, and accounting services to external voluntary organisations companies and small businesses. Up to date knowledge and a flexible approach to service delivery is essential. To expand and market the Accountancy Service within the area.
MAIN RESPONSIBILITIES
- To develop the service, in order to ensure long term sustainability, including marketing, developing new services etc
- To carry out remedial work on the accounting records of organisations and ensure that the organisations are sufficiently trained to maintain their records to acceptable standards
- To train individual organisations on a one to one basis (including support with computerisation of accounts)
- To run courses and workshops on various aspects of financial management
- To carry out financial health checks
- To prepare budgets and financial information required for funding bids
- To provide bookkeeping, budgeting and management support to voluntary organisations, companies and small businesses
- To produce, in line with agreed standards and procedures, annual accounts for voluntary organisations, companies and small businesses
- To undertake Independent examinations/audits of charitable organisations
- Make recommendations on the annual accounts of voluntary organisations, companies and small businesses
- To carry out internal scrutiny/audit of parish councils, Academy schools and other organisations
- To prepare and submit tax returns on behalf of voluntary sector organisations, companies and small businesses
- To prepare reports for line manager to review prior to submitting to external agencies – e.g. Charity Commission, Serious Organised Crime Agency (SOCA) , Companies House, HMRC as required
- To provide payroll support
- To provide financial support and advice over the telephone and by email
- To contribute to good practice guides, and articles for the ERVAS Newsletter
GENERAL JOB TASKS
- To ensure that members of the ERVAS team are kept adequately informed of your work and that information is provided as requested by your line manager.
- To act as a contact point for Community Accountancy Service enquiries and answering the switchboard as required.
- To participate in planning and team building activities within ERVAS and to contribute to the core operation and development of the organisation
- To take part in supervision / appraisal meetings as agreed in line with ERVAS policy.
- To undertake in-service training as appropriate
- To respect confidentiality of all information acquired through working at ERVAS within the framework of the confidentiality policy
- To work in a self-servicing capacity
- To keep professionally informed on developments in accounts and appropriate voluntary sector issues and undertake appropriate training
- To adhere to the policies and procedures and Information Governance requirements of the Board of Trustees
- To adhere to Equality and Diversity Policies and Health and Safety at all times
- To undertake such other duties as are commensurate to the nature of this work and level of responsibility after consultation and agreement with the Board of Trustees
