Job description
The shoulder and elbow unit is currently run by 3 consultants and 2 senior physiotherapists working closely with the rest of the Orthopaedic department and other specialties across the hospital. It is responsible for the care of both elective patients with shoulder and elbow pathology from the local population as well as tertiary referrals.
St George’s Healthcare Trauma and Orthopaedic Department provides both elective and emergency services. We have a team of 25 consultants with special interests covering the whole range of Orthopaedic conditions. The department incorporates the largest pelvic and acetabular fracture unit in the South of England, providing specialist services not available in other hospitals. Other tertiary referral units within Trauma and Orthopaedics at St George’s Healthcare include hip and knee reconstruction, children’s Orthopaedics and spinal surgery.

The Shoulder Unit has a national and international reputation for high quality and innovative work encompassing routine surgery, complex reconstruction and tertiary referral as well as being part of a Major Trauma Centre. The post holder will be attached to the shoulder firm and will be able to spend a considerable amount of time in theatre, including day case, trauma and elective theatres with opportunities to undertake cases under appropriate supervision. The post holder will also be expected to undertake research resulting in publication. The role includes the position as a Clinical Lecturer at St. George’s University of London and as such the post holder will be expected to undertake regular medical student teaching. They will also be expected to provide some service provision.
Please note there is an on-call element to this role which is 1:10 weekends.
St George’s Healthcare NHS Trust wishes to appoint a Post CCT Clinical Fellow with an interest in shoulder and elbow surgery for a 12 month placement starting in February 2025. Outpatient, day case, elective and emergency inpatient work is currently carried out at the St George’s Hospital site in Tooting with elective work being carried out at the Elective Orthopaedic Centre (SWLEOC) in Epsom. There will be opportunities to gain operative experience under the supervision of the consultant surgeons. The post holder will be expected to undertake research resulting in publication in peer review journal
