Job Summary
Brighton College is seeking to appoint a Post Graduate Assistant Teacher of Drama, to start in January 2024. This is a fixed-term post until August 2024, with the possibility of extension for the right candidate.
THE DEPARTMENT
The Drama department consists of the Director of Drama, Head of Academic Drama, Teacher of Drama, two LAMDA teachers and two designers. The subject is taught throughout all year groups, covering vastly contrasting dramatic styles, practitioners and texts, and generally ranging in class sizes of between 10 and 24 pupils. Next academic year there will be 83 pupils taking the subject at GCSE, and 28 at A-Level. At present we follow the EDUQAS syllabus for GCSE and A-Level. The results in recent years have been excellent, achieving 100% 9-7 at GCSE and 100% A*- B at A-Level. Every year Brighton College leavers secure offers and the grades to attend top Universities and Drama Schools to study Drama (and related disciplines). The Drama Department produces four main productions each year, including a Brighton Fringe entry. There is a full co-curricular programme which includes: New Views National Theatre Playwriting Competition, Drama Club, Improvisation Club, Filmmaking, House Monologue and Film Competitions, Theatre Design Crew as well as many theatre trips.
ROLE SPECIFICATION
The role would suit a new graduate considering a career in teaching, although no teaching experience or qualification is required. We are looking for someone who is passionate about Drama and wishes to share that passion with enthusiastic and energetic young people.
The post may involve some or all of the following tasks:
- Supporting two productions in the role as assistant director;
- Teaching some Key Stage 3 drama classes and assisting GCSE and A-Level drama classes;
- Supporting the Drama and Film Clubs;
- Supporting the administration of the Drama department;
- Being involved in theatre trips; Undertaking cover duties; Being an integral part of the boarding community – working with boarding staff to deliver quality pastoral care and activities for boarding pupils. This will include regular duties.
Safeguarding Responsibilities
- This role will involve daily contact with pupils and you will be engaging in regulated activity relevant to children.
- All staff and volunteers have a responsibility for promoting and safeguarding the welfare of children and young persons for who you are responsible and with whom you come into contact.
