3. The Role

RESPONSIBLE TO:
This post will be based at Abertay University in Dundee. Academic supervision will be led by Dr Ed Stephens (St Andrews University), Dr Sarah Cottin, and Professor
Alberto Fiore at Abertay University.

PURPOSE OF POST:

You will lead the analysis of biological samples of our VAPE project, funded project by NHS Tayside.
VAPE (VAscular Effects of Passive Exposure) consists of two pilot studies looking to measure various biomarkers in the urine and saliva of of 150 women and 150 children who are passively exposed to smoking, vaping and healthy controls (50 per group). The aim is to discover specific biomarkers that could help us assess the harmful effects of passive exposure to vaping in larger pivotal studies. You will be responsible for developing analytical methods to detect biomarkers in biological fluids using several analytical chemistry equipment including LCMSMS, LCqToF and
Plate readers, analyse outcomes with appropriate statistical software, writing reports and contribute to publications.

DUTIES:

  • Deliver the project as per the agreed schedule and list of outputs.
  • Develop biomarker detection in biological fluids using targeted approach and untargeted approach using different analytical equipment such as LC-QToF,

LCMSMS.

  • Perform Statistical analysis on biomarkers.
  • Write reports as per the requirements of the project.
  • Assist in the development of research outputs based on the project.
  • Addressing problems that may affect the achievement of project objectives and deadlines.
  • Project management and administrative tasks related directly to the delivery of the project.
