Job description
The main duty of the post holder is to take calls for assistance from wards – departments provide a portering service to all wards and departments, to carry out routine ADHOC duties - dealing with all enquiries and deliveries -booking transport for wards – departments.
Monitoring Trusts car parking - Dealing with enquiries and complaints.
Liaising with the Porter Team Leaders on day to day matters.
- To provide a portering service to all wards & departments. To escort and convey patients by wheelchair, bed or trolley
- To distribute food trolleys and boxes – and food items
- To transfer various specimens or bloods to the pathology department and other wards and departments
- To collect prescriptions and drug books from wards and departments and deliver them to the Pharmacy department
- To distribute and change medical gas cylinders as requested
- To attend fire calls
- To assist at cardiac arrests
- To transport records, X-rays, furniture, equipment and materials
- To undertake mortuary duties as required - viewings, BID’s
- To cover staff in the post room - sorting incoming and outgoing Mail - distribute to all wards and departments
- To collect general clinical, waste - cytotoxic refuse and sharp boxes from all areas on site if required
- Attends mandatory training courses
- Ensure that when a deceased patient is transported from the ward they are treated with due dignity and respect.
- Operate a communication device to keep in touch with other staff in the department.
- Booking taxis when needed & keeping clear records of requests for taxis especially the full name of the person who has authorised it.
- Attendance at all sessions is mandatory, these include moving & handling, resuscitation, infection control, clinical governance, fire training and Dealing with Conflict training. Training in safe handling of medical gases
