Policy Officers - Legal Sector
Do you have an understanding and sensitivity of the nuances of the political and regulatory landscape along with the ability to collaborate with senior leaders and stakeholders?
Since 2018 CILEX has been driving a radical strategic plan transforming the standing of the CILEX professionals within the Legal sector. We have 2 exciting opportunities for policy professionals to contribute to that vision by ensuring CILEX has focused and properly road-tested policy solutions for issues affecting the education, practice and regulation of specialist Lawyers and paralegals, as well as tracking (and identifying the risks and opportunities of) regulatory and policy developments and disseminating to the wider CILEX community.
The roles build robust evidence bases for consultation responses on behalf of the organisation, manage desk-based research and analysis on policy developments, and they will write and edit engaging, informative and creative content for articles, papers, communications and presentations which articulate CILEX policy solutions.
We would like you to have:
- Sound knowledge and experience of policy development work and engagement in a membership or regulatory body (ideally in the legal sector education or regulation sectors)
- Degree or equivalent professional calibre qualification (politics, economics or law is ideal but not essential)
- Experience of developing and driving policy solutions and content for engagement with members and dissemination through appropriate media channels
- Familiarity with justice policy issues, Rule of law or Further Education and/or the ability to learn and breakdown complex technical professional information to understand and re-present it clearly and compellingly.
- Strong stakeholder management skills, and an understanding of how to work with government bodies and officials.
Skills in research, survey design and data analysis will additionally be useful.

Successful applicants to this role will be able to identify and select relevant evidence from a wide range of sources and use it to develop creative policy solutions; they will have highly effective writing skills, be experienced in project management; have the ability to analyse complex information and make a persuasive argument; and they will be confident and competent with IT, systems and databases.
