Job description
Would you like to play a key role in developing policy and strategy?
Are you an independent thinker who is prepared for new challenges?
Do you enjoy making sense of complex information and producing an eye-catching brief?
If you have an interest in policy and strategy development, enjoy collaborating with colleagues and a range of partners, and can work on your own initiative, we are looking for Policy and Strategy Officers to join our team and would love to hear from you.
About the team:
The role of the Corporate Policy and Strategy function sits within KCC’s Strategy, Policy, Relationships & Corporate Assurance division. Its purpose is to help prepare KCC to meet future challenges through medium-term planning, develop corporate and service policy and strategy, and lead on partnership engagement.
You will be working in a fast-paced environment where you can make your research, analysis, report writing, and communications skills speak for themselves and make a personal difference to the Council’s future strategy and policy direction. This is a very exciting time to be working in the Chief Executive’s Department, and the Corporate Policy and Strategy function is at the heart of that department. We are a dynamic team: every day brings an opportunity to get involved in new and emerging activities that have an impact on the council’s strategic direction.
About the role:
You will manage, co-ordinate and support a wide range of policy and strategy initiatives, as well as providing expertise, advice, and support to officers and Members across KCC, to help deliver the Council’s strategic priorities.
You will support key processes and developments within the corporate policy and strategy area, including cross-functional working across the Division.
You will undertake research and analysis to develop specialist knowledge of policy areas as well as an understanding of external influences such as national policy and legislation to inform the development of KCC’s policy and strategy.
You will engage with a wide range of partners to develop effective relationships to enable the development and delivery of joint priorities – finding creative solutions while navigating competing external priorities.
You will help set the business planning framework for the council and support its delivery in order to support the organisation in planning and articulating its medium-term priorities.
We are looking for individuals who have excellent interpersonal skills, feel comfortable meeting and engaging with senior officers and members, and can undertake a diverse range of tasks. If you have a positive outlook, good personal resilience and able to adapt to different challenges, then this could be the role for you.
Why work with us:
In return, you can expect a rewarding career with KCC as we offer a comprehensive and competitive range of benefits to suit all circumstances, including:
- Access to our Local Government Pension Scheme
- Generous holiday and leave entitlement.
- Work that works for you and us – let’s talk flexibility!
- Excellent opportunities for training and development
- And much more
