Job description
Hackney Council is looking for a new Policy and Projects Officer to join its Parking department, and lead the delivery of exciting new projects that will reduce CO2 and improve air quality by encouraging motorists to increasingly choose active travel and sustainable travel options, switch to cleaner vehicles, and reduce private vehicle ownership levels.
Having recently consulted on our 5-year plan to address these challenges, you will lead the delivery of transformational projects, working with colleagues across the council to turn our ambitious change programme into change on the ground.
You will also be responsible for working with the Policy and Project Manager to develop evidence-based policies where change is needed, getting the buy-in to deliver these by working with councillors, the public and other stakeholders to build consensus for doing things better.
You will have excellent leadership, project management, communications, analytical, customer service and negotiation skills, and be able to build effective working relationships with key stakeholders including senior management and diverse communities. You will also be able to use your own initiative to problem solve and manage conflicting priorities, in a changing environment to meet challenging deadlines.
With sustainability principles at the heart of our policies, Parking plays an integral part in making our borough one of London’s best places to live and work. We are proud of our achievements and our people, which makes our organisation one of the best employers in the capital.
We go that extra mile for our staff by offering a work environment which is stimulating, fast moving and supportive, giving you the chance to use your skills and develop new ones within a high-profile organisation. We work hard to support our staff with a range of unrivalled benefits and opportunities that can help you to give your best at work, and achieve a brilliant work-life balance.
Key benefits include:
- Generous holiday allowance (28 days per year, rising to 33 after 5 years of local government service)
- Unrivalled pension scheme
- Flexible working options (family friendly policy)
- Ability to work from home
- A comprehensive training and development
- A range of discounts, including subsidised gym membership
- Access to financial and season travel loans
- Health and wellbeing benefits
- We are also a member of the Cyclescheme and we offer free pool bikes
We welcome applications from well-organised individuals that can coordinate and plan their own workload, work independently and within a growing team. There is a diversity of talent here, and our benefits and policies are designed to reflect a variety of needs. We are a disability-confident employer and strong promoters of inclusivity.
