JOB SUMMARY/ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTIONS: The Police Dispatcher provides telephone and radio dispatching services to inform and direct campus police patrol units to incidents requiring their attention; provides information to students, staff, faculty and the public. This position receives; relays and records police alarms, intradepartmental calls, calls for service, non-emergency and emergency calls.
DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:
- Monitors security radio and telephone network and perform dispatcher duties for security operations.
- Maintains log of security shift activities, accept requests for assistance and complaints by telephone.
- Receives, relays, and records police alarms, other messages, and signals coming in over the police communication system; enters information into Computer Aided Dispatch and Records Management System (ARMS).
- Broadcasts orders to police patrol units to investigate complaints or incidents and relays instructions and/or questions.
- Receives, transmits and otherwise operates various communication devices and computerized information system, to include the Siveillance VMS system.
- Maintains current frequency modulation checks for all cars and periodically checks to measure frequency modulation deviations of transmitters.
- Monitors the CCTV system observing for behavior and activity that is disruptive, destructive, or criminal in nature and initiates appropriate responses.
- Performs other duties as assigned.
MINIMUM REQUIREMENTS:
EDUCATION: High school diploma or GED (TRANSCRIPT REQUIRED)
EXPERIENCE: Six (6) months of experience with heavy emphasis in multitasking and the ability to handle multi-line telephones; six (6) months security or police dispatch experience; basic computer knowledge. Must meet POST requirements in order to obtain query certification from the Tennessee Bureau of Investigations (TBI) to be able to operate the National Crime Information Center (NCIC system). Must be proficient within 30 days of hire in operating Judicial System Support/Jail and Maintenance System (JSS/JMS) systems. Ability to effectively operate the Rave Guardian Alert system when circumstances exist.
LICENSE/CERTIFICATION: Must obtain NCIS (Query Ties) Certification within six (6) months of hire (CERTIFICATION REQUIRED)
WORK SCHEDULE: Must be willing and able to work rotating shifts, days, and holidays.
