The salary of the finalist selected for this role will be set based on a variety of factors, including but not limited to departmental budgets, qualifications, experience, education, licenses, specialty, and training. Position Summary
This position is part of the Shop Staff. It is responsible for managing student personnel, facilities, and certain ceramics functions. Additionally, this position provides staffing for student monitored hours. All Shop Staff positions take on some administrative responsibilities to support the effective operation of the shops.
This is a temporary, part-time officer of administration position that works 21 hours/week from 8/21/23 through 4/30/2024, position is up for renewal each year.
Responsibilities
The incumbent oversees the safe operation of Visual Arts metal, wood and ceramics shops. This includes equipment maintenance, student and staff training, safe usage of equipment and chemicals, and smooth operations of workshops. Must be knowledgeable to service shop machines.
Ceramics Support:
This position provides a support role to the functions of our ceramics area. This staff person will coordinate with the kiln technician and shop manager to support kiln firing, loading and unloading of kilns and other necessary ceramics functions. Additionally, this position will hold responsibility towards the safe creation of mixed chemicals for use as glazes, washes, and other mixtures used in our classes.
Personnel Management:
This position will supervise graduate service position workers in the Shops, including the Graduate Shops Fellow and in ensuring safe operating procedures for the Visual Arts shops as required by the Safety Manager.
Facilities Management:
Maintain tools and equipment for the wood, ceramics and metal shops. Must be knowledgeable with Shops machines and tools, and safety protocol.

Minimum Qualifications
Bachelor’s degree and up to 2 years’ experience required, or the equivalent combination of education and experience. Previous Experience in a Visual Arts Shop is required.
Demonstrated skill working with Visual Arts Shops tools and equipment is required. Experience working with Visual Arts students preferred.
This position will manage the shops and students in the shops during weekday or weekend shifts. At least one weekend shift is required.
Individuals with this title will teach small workshops or provide tutorials on their areas of expertise. This may include tig welding, mold-making, or laser cutting, as these workshops are required by students.
