The SEROCU Intelligence Capability is part of a national infrastructure set up to provide a single intelligence picture of the threat posed by serious and organised crime in the South East.
SEROCU are excited to be building four new intelligence development teams, which will be geographically based in TVP, Hampshire, Sussex and Surrey.
As part of this exciting team, you will gather, develop and disseminate intelligence to support the disruption of serious and organised criminality across the South East region and beyond, in line with National, Regional and Force organisational priorities.
You will develop and maintain productive working relationships with key internal and external partners to maximise intelligence opportunities to progress investigations into serious crime.
We are looking for officers who are enthusiastic, willing to learn new skills and have excellent communication skills with an understanding of current investigative / intelligence methods and tactics.
We welcome applications from Police Constables across Sussex and Surrey.
Due to the nature of the role, the successful candidate will require a full UK driving licence.
Due to the nature of our work, security is of paramount importance to us and therefore it will be necessary to pass and maintain vetting level SC. In order to achieve this, you must be a British National andhave resided in the UK for the past five years. Exemptions apply for overseas or other diplomatic service (with HM Government), and studying abroad.
Responsibilities
- Develop and maintain productive working relationships with key partners (Internal and external) to maximise intelligence opportunities to progress investigations into serious crime.
- Develop and disseminate intelligence in accordance with sanctioned operations, ensuring strict adherence to handling conditions and safeguarding of tactics.
- Gathering, analysing and recording intelligence in a dynamic environment in accordance with legislation and policies.
- Provide support and guidance in respect of intelligence applications, including organising and supporting applications to gather sensitive intelligence and deciding on priority levels in relation to Investigatory Powers Act (IPA).
- Maintain an up to date knowledge of covert law enforcement techniques.
- Review sensitive intelligence and provide recommendations and intervention opportunities for the SIO to determine operational direction against organised crime groups.
- Prepare and maintain intelligence development and briefing documents. Acting as intelligence case officer, present intelligence updates and assessments in support of operational activity.
- To carry out applications under IPA in order to progress intelligence development and evidential opportunities.
- To be aware of both SEROCU and legislative policies on Data Protection, Human Rights, CPIA and Preston as well as other legislation concerning the obtaining, retention and dissemination of intelligence material.
Essential role based training
- Must be Section 57-59 IPA briefed by the appropriate agencies (SIU)
- NCA Product Handlers Course (SIU)
- H5 Course (SIU)
- All intelligence staff will be required to work towards the Intelligence Professionalisation Program for Intelligence Accreditation
Required knowledge/skills
Essential
- Proven ability to demonstrate high standards of integrity and confidentiality.
- Understanding of current investigative and intelligence methods and tactics.
- Knowledge of CPIA and disclosure requirements.
- Excellent communication skills and effective partnership working.
- Proven ability to manage intelligence from multiple sources
Desirable
- Previous recent experience of working in a covert environment or with covert assets.
- Knowledge of the relevant law from Part 1 of RIPA / IPA.
