Job description
As a Platform Engineer working within a fast-paced technical team, youâll be responsible for the management, monitoring and continuous improvement of our networks, infrastructure and cloud platforms (both user-facing and back-office). Pragmatic to the changing responsibilities of a traditional âsys-adminâ in the IT industry, youâll remain flexible to perform cross-disciplinary technical tasks and work closely alongside agile software development teams to deliver cost-clever solutions to customers.
How your role fits within our team
Ascenti Digital is a multi-disciplinary team of technology professionals who help to underpin systems and processes for over 800 staff and thousands of patient appointments across the UK every week. We are a product-led department with a clear roadmap to deliver best practice tools and experiences for our service users. As a more senior member of the IT service desk, youâll take ownership of support tickets as they are allocated to you from our ticketing system. Youâll also be responsible for resolving your tickets each day and supporting 1st line analysts with escalations. Your passion for IT will allow you to work across disciplines within the department and help to build your skills and experience.
Key responsibilities
- Ability to deliver platform updates and changes at short notice and with a modern outlook â confidence to leverage cloud technology and apply solutions that align to the strategy of the business.
- Direct responsibility for communicating and documenting policies and procedures to customers, suppliers and colleagues.
- Keeping up to date with the latest knowledge and trends in the technology industry and striving to be an expert in your areas of specialism.
- Applying technical theory, architecture design and tooling selection to real world business problems in order to leverage competitive advantage as part of the Ascenti Digital Strategy.
- Maintaining change control and monitoring relevant SLAs and KPIs.
- Providing support and project delivery outside core hours both as part of a rota and under a flexible working policy.

As a full-time Platform Engineer, you will work 37.5 hours, Monday â Friday.

- Qualification in IT or computing or equivalent professional experience.

Certifications or evidence of completed training.
- Expert knowledge of system administration for Windows Server 2012/2016/2019 including active directory management, group policy and scripting languages (PowerShell) Patching and maintenance of both server and client Microsoft estates
- Knowledge of the deployment of Office365 applications/configurations.
- Hands-on experience with cloud resources such as storage, virtual compute, databases, networking & security
- Hands-on experience of managing virtual network
- Experience with configuring and supporting VPN solutions.
- Hands-on experience with deploying redundant or highly available solutions.
- Experience with identity management and role-based control.
