We’re currently looking for a Planning Technician to join us on a permanent, part time basis working 4 days per week.

The post provides an opportunity for the post-holder to gain experience of a wide range of planning related work in a national park, primarily providing technical support to our Minerals Planning and Policy & Communities Teams within the wider Planning Service.

The Peak District National Park is a treasured landscape that has been shaped by the long interaction of natural and cultural forces. You will play an important role in maintaining the balance between people and nature to ensure that the Park can be enjoyed for generations to come.

What’s more, we are based between Manchester, Sheffield and Derby, making this the ideal opportunity to break away from city life and commute to the country.

The Role

Reporting to the Strategic Planning Manager, you will be expected to assist the Minerals and Policy and Communities Teams undertake their statutory functions, collate and present data for evidence and monitoring purposes, carry out routine site inspections and offer advice to applicants and members of the public on technical matters.

You may also be required to support the wider Planning Service including working alongside the Authority’s Development Management and Monitoring & Enforcement Teams.

For those who want to progress with professional qualifications, an Apprenticeship may be considered for this role.

About You

To join us as a Planning Technician, you will need:

A Higher National Diploma or equivalent in a relevant subject or be working towards this.
Knowledge and experience in use of GIS and data capture.
Good IT skills, including ability to use Microsoft Word, Outlook, Excel and databases, Excellent written and verbal communication skills

Although not essential, it would be desirable for the successful applicant to have some previous experience of data survey coordinating and reporting, spatial mapping and knowledge of, or an interest in geology and minerals.
