Job description
We aspire to be the best we can be – as individuals and communities, as a Council and as a city. To that end an exciting opportunity has arisen to join the Governance and Regulatory Team as a Planning and Highways Professional Officer; with the focus being on Highways law. The work of the team is fast-paced, and the subject matter is varied and challenging.
In return you can expect a rewarding career in the UK’s greenest city within an organisation that recognises the importance of work/life balance and that offers a range of attractive benefits and a friendly and supportive work environment.
The post would suit someone currently undergoing or having completed legal training, at degree level or equivalent, or those with experience of working at a similar level in a legal environment.
The work involves providing support to lawyers and legal department staff on all aspects of Planning and Highways law to include but not limited to decision making and statutory powers, policy, procedure & appeals.
The successful applicant will need to have the energy and ability to learn quickly and work under pressure. A good knowledge and/or experience of working in a similar role, either in the public or private sector would be desirable.
This role is based in Sheffield. We actively support flexible working arrangements and the wellbeing of our employees in the way we design and deliver our legal services. You can expect the ability to work flexibly, including hybrid working, to be a feature of working for Sheffield City Council.
We value our diverse workforce and aim to work together to make the most of our differences. We welcome applications from everyone. Under the Disability Confident Scheme, disabled applicants, who meet the essential criteria of this job, are guaranteed an interview.
