Start date: September 2023
Job overview
TfL Property Development plays a key role in shaping London. TfL owns a 5,700 acres estate that includes land and properties, with huge potential for creating the homes and jobs the Capital needs. Our landholdings can play a vital role in meeting the Mayor's priorities to build affordable homes and the generation of thriving mixed use places, while generating revenue to re-invest in improving our transport network. We’re committed to creating a fairer, greener, healthier and more prosperous city. To facilitate this, TfL has set up a dedicated commercial property company called TTLP, which TfL Property Development forms a part of.
What will I be doing?
You’ll be a Planning and Development Assistant in the Property Development Planning team; helping realise Mayoral objectives to deliver new homes, affordable housing, high quality place making and income generation through the development of TfL property across the commercial estate. You’ll undertake planning research, appraise potential development sites and opportunities, review planning policy, provide planning advice to colleagues and generally support the progression of development schemes. Whilst you’ll be part of the Planning team, the role will also provide opportunities for you to gain experience of other roles in property development. You’ll work closely with other parts of TfL, the GLA, local authorities, developers, consultants, and other key stakeholders.
You’ll make a valuable contribution to exciting and innovative proposals in London, which are often of national significance, helping you develop your understanding of the planning and the development process.
Where can this career take me?
This one year immersive and stimulating opportunity will provide you with a chance to apply your studies and theory in a real-life situation, understanding the challenges involved in planning and development. You’ll gain an insight into what it’s like to work on development projects from feasibility to planning application stage, which are often exemplar schemes that use best practice and innovative approaches. There will be opportunities to get involved with a broad spectrum of areas, including the design, quality, and sustainability side of things. You’ll experience developing in an ever-changing city, with a wide variety of demands and requirements, giving you both the knowledge and transferrable skills to succeed.
Please note, this role does not lead into a graduate scheme at TfL.
What training and support will you get?
This is a hands-on role; you’ll have the opportunity to work on your own projects and there’s a fair balance between autonomy and support, with a fantastic team on hand to mentor and assist you.
What do we look for?
We’re looking for people who are interested in planning, development and regeneration, and are passionate about making London a better place through sustainable development. If you have drive and motivation, a willingness to learn, and a desire to deliver an excellent service to our stakeholders, then this will be a great opportunity for you.
