We’re recruiting for a Strategic Planning Analyst to join our team. The Strategic Planning team lead the development and delivery of our charity’s strategy, providing the tools and standards by which change is managed, as well as track progress and measure our impact.

More about the role

This brand-new role is an integral part of the Strategic Planning team and strategic planning activities for the charity. Working with the Head of Strategic Planning they will develop and embed the necessary framework to enable outcomes (benefits) to be effectively managed throughout the strategic portfolio.
The role will also involve:
  • Working with the Head of Strategic Planning to continue to develop and embed strategic planning processes to support the efficient and effective delivery of the Blue Cross strategy.
  • Supporting the strategic planning process through the production of accurate plans, definition and management of benefits, and provision insight to inform effective decision-making.
  • Producing and maintaining the strategic portfolio plan and undertaking analysis to identify weaknesses, opportunities, and impact of changes.
  • Working with peers in the Data and Insights and Finance teams to determine how project and programme benefits will be measured and to validate outputs, ensuring that the data used at portfolio level is robust.
  • Working with the Data and Insights team to report on progress against the charity’s strategic plans through reporting of Key Performance Indicators and progress against milestones and targets.
  • Contributing to the development and monitoring of new and robust measures of success.
  • Analysing internal and external data to provide actionable insight that will influence the size and shape of the strategic portfolio. This includes looking at market trends, external factors and identifying areas of growth and opportunity.
  • Ensuring that the methods and tools used are accurate and improvements are developed and implemented.
  • Providing easily accessible subject matter expertise to colleagues through coaching and mentoring, for the production of plans and the identification and definition of benefits at project and programme level.
  • Undertaking training and development as identified by the Head of Strategic Planning.
  • Taking part in Strategic Planning team activities, Finance and Resources directorate level engagements and charity-wide initiatives.
About you
The person will be a subject matter expert in benefits management for the successful delivery of organisation strategy. They will have an excellent eye for detail together with excellent numerical skills and an aptitude for the analysis, visualisation, and interpretation of data to provide actionable management information. With significant experience in producing portfolio level plans, benefit management information and providing support in these areas for colleagues at all levels. They will be an excellent communicator, both in person and through written materials, with extensive experience in visualising and presenting complex, technical information in a format that is accessible for everyone.
The Strategic Planning Analyst must develop effective working relationships with people at all levels within the organisation, ensuring they are approachable and provide an excellent level of service for all internal customers.
The person will be self-motivated with the ability to work effectively as part of a team and independently to agreed deadlines. They will be able to manage and prioritise their workload to deliver high quality outputs to agreed timescales.
Knowledge, skills, and experience
  • Experience working in a similar role to support the effective delivery of strategy through the provision of actionable portfolio management information and plans
  • Extensive experience of analysing, interpreting, and presenting portfolio management information to inform decision-making a senior level
  • Significant experience of data analysis and data manipulation
  • Experience of working with a range of stakeholders, including senior leadership teams to provide high quality, actionable management information
  • A recognised project management qualification, e.g., Prince2, APM BOK or equivalent experience of working in a formal project management setting
  • Highly computer literate with extensive experience using Microsoft 365 products (i.e., Word, Excel, PowerPoint, SharePoint)
  • The ability to demonstrate, understand and apply our Blue Cross values
It would also be great if you had:
  • Experience of working with Business Intelligence tools e.g. MS Power BI, Tableau
  • Experience of managing projects
  • Experience of working in the charitable/not for profit sector
