Job description

A fantastic opportunity has arisen for a Band 4 Physiotherapy Assistant Practitioner to join the inpatient and outpatient physiotherapy teams at Grantham and District Hospital. This is a newly created role working across the orthopaedic and MSK pathway and will include working across the elective orthopaedic service, musculoskeletal outpatients, and hydrotherapy.

Grantham Hospital is working towards becoming the “Orthopaedic centre of Excellence” for the region, it is the main site for elective orthopaedic surgery in Lincolnshire, and the surgical ward is one of the only GIRFT accredited wards in the country. There are some exciting developments across the MSK and orthopaedics, including prehabilitation for elective hip and knee patients which the post holder will be involved in. Grantham is also currently the only hospital site in Lincolnshire with a hydrotherapy pool which you will be able to be involved in.

We work hard to support your development and ensure you receive 1:1 supervision, regular training/peer review/journal clubs and access to advice and support from our team leads and clinical specialist physiotherapists, as well as the wider therapy team.

The role requires the successful candidate to work as part of a team to manage a designated workload (within a scope of practice), maintain appropriate records, and accept accountability and responsibility for their own actions. The post holder will need to be able to work autonomously, with close supervision/support from a qualified team member, and as part of the wider multi-disciplinary team.

There will be opportunities to engage in service developments and training and the post holder will assist with the supporting and skill development of Physiotherapy staff including assistants, apprentices and students.

To work with a degree of autonomy and as part of a team manage a designated workload, maintaining appropriate records, within a scope of practice and accept accountability and responsibility for own actions.

To accept patients within a scope of practice and carry own patient caseload.

To evaluate patient’s progress and use own judgement to make amendments to the treatment programme within their scope of practice.

To undertake administrative and some house-keeping duties to support the Therapy service.

There will be opportunities to engage in both personal and service developments as well as training.

The post holder will be required to work Bank Holidays & weekends as part of a rota.
