Band 7 Position in General Surgery (Registered Nurse/Physician Associate)

This is an exciting opportunity for physician assistant, physician associate or registered nurse to apply for this dynamic role in our surgical department.

This is a Fixed term contract for 12 months where the successful candidate will be expected to work within the department of general surgery supporting junior doctors to facilitate patient care pathways and the pre-operative, operative and post-operative period. This job is instrumental in providing best patient experience, contributing to the cost effectiveness to surgical pathway and embracing King’s values.

To work in accordance with the NMC Code of Professional Conduct, Trust Policies and Procedures Ensure the developments and maintenance of high standards of clinical care in accordance with progression nursing guidelines and Trust policies and procedures within available resources.

Deliver skilled practical nursing care and participate in the monitoring of the assessing, planning, delivery and evaluation of individualised patient care to emergency surgical and trauma patients. To support the junior doctors, health professionals on the ward, outpatient and theatre environment.

Hold an internal bleep/Wi-Fi phone and respond in a timely and efficient manner to all issues, ensuring all relevant staff are informed and where applicable information is documented on EPR.

If delays may be experienced for obtaining bloods, cannulation, requesting investigations or planning discharge and arranging summaries where appropriate expected to support junior doctors.

To communicate effectively with patients, their relatives, carers and all healthcare personnel regarding any delays or issues.

In conjunction with consultant and senior nurses within the care group, to ensure that patient pathways are efficient, organised and effective, which consequently lead to good outcomes.

To participate in benchmark and quality audits including Observations of Care. Ensuring that staff receive feedback on the results, and that where necessary, action is taken to improve standards.

Detailed job description and main responsibilities The candidate will have the opportunity to facilitate the journey for better patients experience, contribute to efficient and swift pathway and eventually this journey will be more cost effective.

There will be variable duties and involvement in triaging referrals, acknowledging results and close involvement in the governance process.

Previous experience in general surgery is essential, background of nursing and practice in any of the speciality of general surgery and Interest in any of the specialities including upper gastrointestinal, bariatric colorectal, breast and emergency surgical pathways will be welcomed.

There is a potential to develop the role and tailor the specific duties in line with the interest of the appointed candidate and previous experience and training.

This exciting role will give the opportunity to the successful candidate to accompany patients journey from the beginning till the end of their surgical pathway. Expected to work in collaboration with all members of the Multidisciplinary Team of health professionals.
