Outpatient Rehabilitation Aide
The rehabilitation aide is a valuable member of the rehabilitation team who follows all VHC policies and the Rehab Departments procedures. This team member is skilled in time management, facilitates the efficient and safe delivery of care through indirect patient care and supervised direct patient care responsibilities, promotes high level customer service, is a steward for hospital resources and completes educational and administrative tasks as assigned.

- High school graduate or equivalency preferred.
- One year of experience in the healthcare field preferred.
- American Heart Association BLS Certification required.
- Safely directs and assists patients and visitors to and from treatment areas.
- Properly positions patients for treatment as directed by therapist.
- Observes patient’s color, level of responsiveness, degree of perspiration, and pulmonary status and reports these or any concerns in the patient’s condition to the therapist or department leadership.
- Works under therapist direction for transfers: moving medical lines, furniture, overall setting up environment for transfer and helping to facilitate transfers as directed.
- Works under therapist direction for gait activities: moving/placing equipment, utilizing gait belts, following with wheelchair, assisting with obtaining or changing out type of equipment, and following therapist overall direction during gait training.
- Works with therapist under his/her direction to assist in patient treatment and promote patient and staff safety.
- Maintains gym and equipment according to infection control standards.
- Cleans and sets up treatment areas on an ongoing bases throughout the day.
- Cleans splint pan(s), hydrocollator(s) and paraffin bath(s) per department procedure.
- Calibrates equipment as requested.
- Monitors rehab equipment. Removes or places a sign on any broken or damaged equipment, enters a service request when appropriate and notifies leadership.
- Properly manages linen.
- Develops cooperative working relationships with clinical and non-clinical staff from other departments.
- Tracks and facilitates return of Medicare POC’s at therapist request while working cooperatively with physician office staff, as needed.
- Completes comprehensive inventory on a monthly basis. Performs weekly inventory based off department supply list. Order supplies as warranted. Communicates with department leadership regarding supply requests and budget concerns.
- Assists in research as requested for additional items needed within the department.
- Performs daily temperature and crash cart checks required by The Joint Commission, and ensures coverage of these tasks for scheduled time off.
- Routinely inspects department for environment of care Joint Commission compliance.
- Maintains department records as requested.
- Assists front office with basic scheduling, addressing emails, checking and returning phone messages, copying and other office tasks as requested.
- Assists with set-up/take down for presentations, trainings and meetings.
- Presents viable solutions to non-clinical problems and a plan to execute the solutions.
- Maintains Aide sign-up spreadsheet to promote proper utilization of the aide(s).
- Distributes the daily schedule and posts therapy times for patients on specific units where it is required.
- Coordinates with therapist and consults with nursing prior to entering a patient room.
- Observes patient’s color, level of responsiveness, degree of perspiration, and pulmonary status and reports these or any other obvious changes in the patient’s condition to the nearest clinical staff member (nurse, therapist, provider, etc).
- Utilizes patient call bell or nurse ‘s phone extension in an emergency.
- Works under therapist direction to facilitate quality care and good customer service by safely assisting patients with food tray, feeding activities, personal hygiene following toileting/vomiting and/or changing of linens.
- Distributes the daily schedule and posts therapy times for patients on specific units where it is required.
