Provide a professional high quality cost effective medical photography service to the Trust and other users
Ensure a high standard of work is maintained that meets client expectations and deadlines
Assist in the smooth running of the department by undertaking other related duties
Undertake and manage own workload maintaining all relevant records pertaining to Medical Photography Services.

Clinical Photographer
The Medical Photography Department are seeking an enthusiastic individual to join their team at Northampton General Hospital NHS Trust. The candidate should have a degree in Photography or equivalent knowledge and experience of digital photography. They will contribute towards the provision of a high quality service to the Trust. A considerable amount of work is undertaken on wards but also in our studio, clinics and operating theatres. The successful candidate must be a team player but also able to use their own initiative and work on their own when required. Ophthalmic photography experience would be an advantage but is not essential, as ongoing training in all areas of the department will be provided.
The successful applicant will be required to be registered with AHCS (Academy for Health Care Sciences). If registration is yet to be achieved, the band for this post will be band 4 rising to 5 once registration with AHCS is achieved. Where registration is yet to be awarded, sponsorship for the required Graduate or Postgraduate Certificate in Clinical Photography (Staffordshire University) will be provided by the TRUST. This is a distance learning qualification.

Undertake appropriate photographic assignments as requested by clinical staff utilising a wide range of photographic skills including cross lighting macro and dermoscope photography. These assignments may be in the department’s studio or on location in wards, theatres, Outpatient Departments or other departments. Occasionally taking these photographs may be distressing
Non Accidental Injuries (NAIs) on both children and adults may be required. This may result in interview by Police/Social Services and/or appearance in Court
Be able to communicate with service users complex photographic techniques and processes to assess the best techniques for their needs
To be available to staff who take their own photographs for advice on technique and procedures
Be able to use tact, diplomacy and sensitivity when dealing with patients
Undertake Retinal and Fundus Fluoroscein Angiography for the Ophthalmology Department
In depth knowledge of modern digital cameras and Post Processing Techniques using industry standard creative software
To be able to work to strict Standard procedures to ensure continuity of output
Manage own workload on a daily basis meeting the demands of the service.
To ensure the highest levels of confidentiality and data protection as the department produces many highly sensitive images. There are departmental protocols which must be followed to ensure patient data confidentiality
Be aware of the needs of any patient disabilities whist carrying out photography
Make professional judgements on the correct photographs required in any given situation taking into consideration patient and staff requirements and a range of technical, legal and social issues
Ensure the highest possible standards are provided to staff and patients with quality of patient care being of prime concern
Ensure patient welfare whilst in their care
Ensure all Request/Consent forms are correctly completed
Logging and uploading images to the Trusts Medical Image Management system and the Medical Photography Job management System
To maintain an up to date knowledge of current trends in clinical photography and an awareness of national best practice.
Occasionally support the Trust’s Communications Department with Public Relations photography
Undertake studio portraiture for department/ward photoboards
Assist other members of the Medical Photography Team when required.
To work co operatively with other health care professionals
To identify through formal and informal discussion and annual appraisal personal developmental needs.
Agree a series of personal development goals and departmental objectives
To undertake tasks within the context of this post as requested by the Head of Medical Photography
Any other duties which may be required within the context of this job description and applicable to the grade of the post
