Role Responsibility

As a Photo Editor, you will help implement and interpret the Selfridges creative vision through the styling and quality of online shoots, ensuring that all imagery is on brand. With an understanding and ability to maintain best practices, not only to achieve very high standards of styling and imagery but also to maintain agreed efficiencies within the studios.

As Photo Editor you will:

  • Draw inspiration from a variety of fashion media to influence imagery ideas and Editorial franchise shoots
  • Bring extensive knowledge of fashion, lifestyle and photography trends.
  • Develop and maintain excellent relationships with photo agencies and ever increasing roster of industry leading photographers across fashion, beauty, lifestyle, home, and kids.
  • Maintain key relationships with the wider business to ensure buy is represented correctly for optimum customer experience.
  • Act as the first point of contact for all picture queries, requests, new briefs. Gatekeeper of bespoke imagery / ensuring image principles are upheld across all 3rd party imagery and organic content.
  • Quality assure all areas of the site, social and CRM.
  • Ensure excellent knowledge of the Selfridges Style Guides in order to maintain visual quality and consistency across all images taken for the website
  • Create and cascade dept specific photo guidelines and provide training to teams (inclduing editorial and SEO). Quality assure resulting outputs by overseeing their picture selections and signing it off.
  • Provide hands-on image sourcing and editing, including colour correction and retouching using Adobe Photoshop where necessary.
  • Manage photo editor budget, cost tracking, management responsibilities when required (freelance picture editors, interns). Establishing cost saving initiatives, negotiating subscription deals.
  • Be responsible for liaising with Selfridges trade, buying, styling, and social teams to coordinate content requirements across all Selfridges owned and operated platforms.
  • Liaise with senior stakeholders across Press, Events, Editorial, SEO, MMC, Windows, Key, Marketing, special projects, Corner Shop, CRM, Customer Connect, Sustainability, Brand Planning and Photo Studio.
  • Participate in creative brainstorms, be a source of inspiration by bringing new ideas and concepts to Selfridges.
  • Own governance of all imagery across the site, briefing creative teams / lead creative kick offs for site refreshes / new page builds.
  • Create creative packs to steer photographic styling for key projects.
  • Manage the creative studios photographic library corresponding the buy (mix of campaign, look book, backstage and still life, photo studio).
  • Establish and maintain the photographic library (aka Image Bank) and asset tracker for optimal distribution of assets across the business
  • Ownership of asset tracking, all image usage, implementation of DAM System, image distribution, sourced assets / 3rd party library.
  • Coordinate with the fashion direction, editorial, buying and CRM teams to identify image needs.
  • Oversee regular visual site audits – plot refreshes, check usages, ensure correct placement, providing feedback.
  • Leading special projects to ensure visual consistency across the site
  • Manage, source and create the weekly site refresh workflow for Selfridges Editorial content.
  • Deliver compelling global weekly content, developing original and fresh ideas that are inspirational, directional and that engage the Selfridges audience.
  • Ensuring all imagery is appropriate for global markets.

The Ideal Candidate

  • Experienced. You will have experience as a Photo Editor. With strong photo editing skills and an excellent portfolio. You have strong fashion and styling sense, with the ability to incorporate new fashion trends. You may also have Editorial experience but it’s not essential
  • Knowledgeable. You have extensive knowledge of designers, brands and runway looks and what trends are happening each season.
  • Skilled. You have thorough knowledge of digital technology and photo editing software packages (e.g. Photoshop, Pixlr and Affinity Photo). Combined with a creative mind and an eye for detail and storytelling skills
  • Proactive and organised. Proven ability to work to tight deadlines and an exceptional eye for detail. Time-management and leadership skills
  • A team player. You are able to work well as part of a team in a high performance environment.
  • Adaptable. Prioritising is one of your skills and you know how to keep you team calm and focused in times of change
  • A good communicator. You not only build strong relationships with your stakeholders and team, you are able to lead as well as take direction when necessary
  • Qualified. With a BSc degree in photography, visual arts, digital media or related field
