Job Overview
Helmsley Medical Centre is looking for a qualified, experienced phlebotomist to work within our busy practice. They will be joining an already well-established team of experienced and supportive nurses and healthcare assistant.
Main duties of the job
The successful candidate will have experience of taking blood within a Primary Care setting. It is important that the post holder is able to remain calm under pressure, is efficient and organised.
The post holder will have experience of managing blood-taking equipment ensuring that infection control protocol is followed at all times.
The post holder will have clinical system experience and knowledge of entering patient information on the system.

Part time role of 16.5 hours per week over 3 mornings (must include a Friday morning).
About us
Helmsley Medical Centre is a busy surgery which prides itself on providing excellent patient care to our 3500 patients.
We have 2 GP partners and two salaried GPs, 2 Advanced Nurse Practitioners, 2 Nurses, an HCA as well as a superb group of highly committed and enthusiastic administrative and reception staff. There is also a pharmacy attached to the surgery.
Terrington Surgery is a small village practice providing health care and dispensing to our 1400 patient population. We share the same GP team and also have a phlebotomist, practice nurse and supportive reception/administrative staff.
Job Description
Main duties
To undertake the delivery of Phlebotomy service in General Practice, working with the doctors and nursing team to bring medical services to the patients.
Responsibilities
· Management of Treatment Room
· To ensure correct equipment is used and kept clean to prescribed guidelines for infection control protection
· Collection of samples of blood in accordance with training and procedures
· Maintenance of infection control
· To record patients' clinical data on the computer
The post holder will be required to
· Work in accordance with practice guidelines to assist the clinical team
· Collect samples of blood, ensuring that they are labelled correctly
· Maintain confidentiality and check patient identification
· Liaise with clinicians with any concerns
· Effectively manage own time, workload and resources

Qualifications
Essential
· Qualified in Phlebotomy/Venepuncture
Experience
Essential
· Experience of working in a healthcare setting
· Ability to record accurate clinical notes
· Consistently confidential, compassionate and respectful approach, placing a high value on the dignity of patients, relatives, carers and colleagues.
Desirable
· Working in General Practice
· Experience of using the clinical system SystmOne
