School of Education and Communities is advertising for two fully funded PhD Scholarships

Qualification type: MPhil/PhD

Location: London

Funding amount: Full Tuition fee £5,580 + Stipend for UK students (£19,688)

International students to receive a fee discount to the value of the UK tuition fee + Stipend (£19,688)

Hours: Full time

The School of Education and Communities (EDUCOM) is delighted to offer two fully funded scholarships to cover the UK tuition fee and stipend for a period of three years. For international students this scholarship will be a fee discount to the value of UK tuition fees. The EDUCOM PhD Scholarship Scheme will provide two students the opportunity to work with an excellent supervisory team on any of our priority cutting-edge themes:

  • Social justice, equality, and diversity
  • Early childhood education
  • Communities
  • Sustainability including the United Nation’s Sustainable Development Goals
  • Education and Wellbeing
  • Digital inequalities

Proposed doctoral projects may be discipline-specific or cross-disciplinary. Support for additional training will be considered.

Start date of this studentship is 1st May 2023

The School of Education and Communities is a highly successful provider of education, early childhood and special needs. Our Social Work and Social Sciences courses enable students to explore key issues surrounding international relations, sustainable development, leadership, social change, migration, individual and societal wellbeing, third sector and communities. Centre for Social Change and Justice – co-directors Dr Meera Tiwari (Social Science) and Dr Lynne McCarthy (Applied Theatre)

Centre for Migration, Refugees and Belonging (CMRB) is an established research centre making valuable contribution to research and policy. Members have a number of research projects with a network of grassroots organisations working refugees. Currently there are two UBEL students attached to it.

Centre for Wellbeing, Community and Inclusion – co-directors Dr Matteo Martini (Psychology) and Dr Janet Hoskins (Education)

Centre for Creative and Cultural Practice – co-directors Dr Valentina Vitali (Film Studies) and Dr Sharone Lifschitz (Fine Art).

Eligibility criteria:

Applicants must have at least 2.1 UK degree in Social Sciences, Education or any cognate area (or an overseas qualification that can be deemed equivalent), and a UK Masters degree (Merit) in a relevant field (or an overseas qualification that can be deemed equivalent). A recognised English language qualification is required. IELTS score of 7.0 overall, or equivalent.

  • Research proposal which must include a research question, your proposed methodology and preliminary timeline (not more than 1500 words)
  • Personal statement including information on you wish to pursue this research and what you will contribute to the research environment within the school (not more than 300 words).
  • Short CV highlighting your recent experience and skills

In addition, you must also provide in the same email the following supporting documentation:

  • Your degree certificates and transcripts and proof of English language proficiency if relevant.
  • Details of two referees. At least one referee must be an academic referee from the institution that conferred your highest degree.
