Overview
- This is an exciting opportunity for a pharmacy dispenser to train up to technician level and work in a multi site role providing the highest level of patient care.
- This is a split sector training position and the successful candidate will be given a 2 year contract to complete their Pharmacy Technician and ACT training with us. The role will consist of 3 days in community pharmacy, 1 day off site at St Leonard's hospice (YO24 1GL), and 1 day study time.

Description of tasks
The role of Pharmacy Technician is a vital member of the team to help patients get the best outcome for their medicines. The role involves liaising with patients and other healthcare professional to ensure the safe and effective use of medicines. They work closely under the supervision of the pharmacist and are registered healthcare professionals responsible for their own accurate and safe practice.
Community pharmacy role:
- Providing safe and effective pharmacy services according to Company standard operating procedures (SOPs);
- Deal with medication queries from patients and provide advice;
- Lead on/support with additional services including GP/111 referrals; vaccinations; care home supply; dosette boxes, controlled drugs;
- Maintain an up to date clinical knowledge;
- Identify issues with medication and bring this information to the attention of the responsible pharmacist;
- Ensure stock is received, managed and stored in accordance with the SOPs.
Hospice role:
- Upholding professional standards as per GPHC guidance
- Communicate clearly and effectively with nursing staff
- Stock management – managing the supply and delivery of medications including controlled drugs, dressings, catheters.
- Completing weekly stock orders
- Monthly date checking of all stock medication, expired stock is removed, and short dated stock is marked and stored so that it can be used first
- Regular destruction of medication
- Support with incoming patients and discharge
- Unpacking, reconciling and putting orders away when they arrive
