Job description

The Fairlands Practice is looking for a qualified and motivated Pharmacy Technician to join our friendly team in the Guildford area. The Pharmacy Technician will support our dynamic multi- disciplinary team of doctors, nurses, ANPs, pharmacists, paramedics, social prescribers and mental health practitioners.

Please note job hours are flexible we are looking to recruit 1 full time equivalent so either 1 full time person or 2 part time people.

The Pharmacy Technician is responsible for providing excellent customer service to patients, and will play an active role in improving pharmacy administration. The post holder will undertake both patient-facing and administrative work to ensure the delivery of safe, effective and efficient systems for repeat prescribing, medicines optimisation, reduction of medicines waste and maximising patient outcomes. The ideal candidate must be qualified as a pharmacy technician, with professional registration with GPhc, professional, friendly, and patient. Our pharmacy team is an important part of our organization and we are looking for individuals who want to make a difference.

Qualifications and Experience:

  • Professional registration with GPhC - Essential
  • BTEC/NVQ level 3 or equivalent in pharmaceutical sciences - Essential
  • Experience of working as a qualified, registered pharmacy technician in primary care, hospital or community pharmacy -Essential
  • Evidence of continued professional development (CPD) - Essential
  • Experience of working in a GP Practice - Desirable

Job description:

  • Carry out medicines optimisation tasks including effective medicine administration, supporting medication reviews and medicines reconciliation post-discharge and other transfers of care
  • Process repeat medication requests, including conversion of acute requests to repeat medicines, changing quantities of medicines as required
  • Promote Electronic Repeat Dispensing and online ordering as appropriate
  • Implement efficient ordering and return processes and reduce medication wastage
  • Work with clinical pharmacists to develop safe, effective and efficient systems for repeat prescribing
  • Support the practice to deliver targets
  • Monitor practice adherence to practice, local and national prescribing policies
  • Act as a point of contact for both patients and colleagues with medication queries
  • Undertake, participate and share outcomes of clinical audits to facilitate improvement
  • Implement changes to medication that result from CAS/MHRA alerts, product withdrawal and other local/national guidance
