Pharmacy Research Lead
Full Time (1.0 WTE) - 1 year fixed-term contract
There is an exciting new opportunity at Dorset County Hospital for a individual who is passionate about the developing and leading the Pharmacy Research team. As the Pharmacy Research Lead, you will be responsibly for managing the Pharmacy Research Service, and be a key part of both the Pharmacy and Research Senior Management Team.
A key part of the 12 month fixed term will be to develop a business case for the Pharmacy Research Team, which will not only support the continuation of this role, but also lead to further investment into the Pharmacy Research team.
Key responsibilities include:
- Lead, manage and develop the provision of a highly specialist, efficient and high quality pharmaceutical clinical trials service within the Trust.
- Ensure pharmacy clinical trial services are provided in a safe, efficient manner and in accordance with relevant legislation, professional regulations and national policy.
- Provide expert analysis, assessment and decision-making for final approval and acceptance of clinical trials involving investigational medicinal product (IMPs) in the Trust.
- Provide highly specialised advice to the Trust’s Research Department and to Trust clinicians in their role as Chief/Principal Investigator, in respect of all aspects of IMP management, procurement, manufacture and supply in accordance with statutory requirements for Good Clinical Practice (GCP), Good Distribution Practice (GDP) and Good Manufacturing Practice (GMP).
- Working with the Superintendent Pharmacist, ensure the Pharmacy Dispensary complies with relevant legislation, Good Distribution Practice (GDP) and best practice

The post includes a weekly late duty and participation in the weekend and bank holiday rota.

This post will form an integral part of the research team, allowing us to deliver research safely and effectively, as we look to increase our commercial activity. This is the result of seeing greater numbers of clinical teams looking to develop their own research portfolios and increase the number of research-active Consultants which will require a corresponding increase in resource from the research team and pharmacy department to deliver. The appointee for this post will allow for the opening of high through-put commercial studies to support capacity build. In addition, this resource will provide crucial support to the West Dorset Research Hub that we are in the process of opening in collaboration with Dorset HealthCare University Hospital; this ambitious service development which is entirely centred around commercial studies of investigational medicinal products, will be crucial to the income generation for Research and a key strategic aim for the Trust.
